Ananda Lewis (B.A. ’95), the voice of a generation, died from breast cancer on June 11, 2025. Just two years after her Howard graduation, she hosted BET’s “Teen Summit,” a talk show that gave an unfiltered voice to Black teens and the issues they cared about. After Teen Summit, she became an MTV video jockey, hosting MTV’s Total Request Live and Hot Zone. She used her history training to lead discussions about history in the making, including the Columbine shooting and racial profiling. Lewis won NAACP Image Awards for her work on BET and MTV, hosted the syndicated The Ananda Lewis Show, became a correspondent for The Insider, and even hosted TLC’s While You Were Out show after earning her associate’s degree in carpentry. As a history major at Howard, she was known for her intelligence as well as her grace and beauty, as she was chosen to appear in the video “Baby I’m Yours,” a song recorded by her fellow Bison, the music group Shai. At a time when Black women in broadcast journalism struggled to gain visibility, Lewis shined in the spotlight. She will be sorely missed 🕊️ Read more on The Dig thedig.howard.edu/all-storie…

RIP to Roger Corman, a producer I will always hold in the highest regard. He had a storied career, producing hundreds of films. The opportunities he created in cinema were abundant on so many levels and many are unaware of the talent discoveries he made over his lifetime. Truly one of a kind.
Legendary B-movie king Roger Corman, who directed and produced hundreds of low-budget films and discovered such future industry stars as Jack Nicholson, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, has died. He was 98. variety.com/2024/film/news/r…

Roger Corman, one of the most influential movie directors in my life, has passed away. It was my privilege to know him.He was a great friend. He shaped my childhood with science fiction movies and Edgar Allen Poe epics. I'll miss you, Roger.

Trugoy the Dove, who passed away yesterday at 54, was a deeply beloved hip-hop innovator. The subtle genius and leisurely style he brought to the music of De La Soul helped make the legendary trio both relatable and revolutionary. trib.al/UJL7Mkt
