As long as a business follow the available guidance and can show they have taken steps to prepare for GDPR they shouldn't worry. For any businesses that are worried – get in touch with @fsb_policy or @ICOnews – there is help available! #FSBeDataReady teapawt.net/SmallBizSatUK/status/9…

One last question ( I'm asking on behalf of an etsy group I'm in), so as I can access data via my online shop I need a privacy statement. Do I also need to register and pay the £35 for this?

There has been a lot of scaremongering out there about the ICO’s power to impose heavy fines. The ICO have reassured us that fines will be the last resort. Check out our blog from Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham, for more info - bit.ly/2CljGtM #FSBeDataReady teapawt.net/SmallBizSatUK/status/9…
Hi @RachaelLBC Yes you will need explicit consent. That can be historic. So, if you already hold this data and have been given consent to use it, that will be fine. However, you cannot presume consent #FSBeDataReady teapawt.net/RachaelLBC/status/9688…
Thanks for your question @Pfmobility When it comes to offline data, the principals remain the same - the data must be kept safe. To find out whether you need to register visit the @ICOnews website - bit.ly/1TNdPh7 #FSBeDataReady teapawt.net/Pfmobility/status/9688…

Thanks for your question @KissAirCandles No you won't need explicit consent from your customers but you should identify lawful basis for processing this data and put it in you privacy notice. More details here - bit.ly/2deJ72T #FSBeDataReady teapawt.net/KissAirCandles/status/…
#fsbedataready Q. Do we need permission to add customers to our database which is only used for reporting (end of month sales) within the business?

It's great practice to find out whether Etsy, other market places and your suppliers are compliant. Again, this all comes back to whether you are storing your customers data. If you are, you will need to add a privacy notice #FSBeDataReady teapawt.net/Gillisflowers/status/9…

I asked Etsy about their GDPR compliance but I have been waiting 3 days for a reply which is rather worrying. I have to use a password to log on but to be safe should I add a privacy statement to my FAQ? Thanks for your help.

You will not need explicit consent if they are giving you their phone number for the specific purpose of collecting a product. If you are going to use that data for any other purpose, you will need to tell them and get explicit consent - bit.ly/2FESo0m #FSBeDataReady teapawt.net/LibbyButlers/status/96…
There may be costs involved with complying but before spending any money, small businesses should seek support from organisations like FSB and the ICO to better understand the changes. They will be able to give advice on what steps need to be taken to comply #FSBeDataReady teapawt.net/SmallBizSatUK/status/9…
Thanks for your question @Gillisflowers - if you are storing this information anywhere online or offline, then yes. You will have to ensure that this data is kept safely and securely and that you are telling your customers you hold this data and how you will use it teapawt.net/Gillisflowers/status/9…
#FSBeDataReady I sell on-line via Etsy and copy and paste the addresses on my pc to Royal Mail click and drop. Do I need to do anything?

This is a change in the way data is regulated, and there are new obligations on businesses. So businesses should be thinking about this. But, there is lots of guidance available from @ICOnews and @fsb_policy and so they shouldn’t worry - bit.ly/2deJ72T #FSBeDataReady teapawt.net/SmallBizSatUK/status/9…
