• See failure as a beginning. • Never stop learning. • Assume nothing, question everything. • Teach others what you know. • Analyze objectively. • Practice humility. • Respect constructive criticism. • Take initiative. • Give credit where it's due. • Love what you do.

New book arrived today. Dr Lown wastes no time. This is the third paragraph. He wrote it 20+ years ago; perhaps it’s more true today. Can’t wait to get into this. #medicalconservative @lowninstitute

If you want to master something, teach it. The more you teach, the better you learn. Teaching is a powerful tool to learning.

Thoughtful case from @RobertPearlMD that another factor driving physician burnout is the crude form of performance measurement we have in medicine. Certainly: current measures are not aligned with either the goals of patients or clinicians for care. forbes.com/sites/robertpearl…

This is tragic. Among 454,813 opioid-naive patients with ankle sprains, 8.3% filled an opioid prescription within 7 days of diagnosis and of these, 8.4% were still using opioids 90-180 days later. bit.ly/2NEaeYR

Unbelievable. I really hope the MOCA developers reconsider this unfortunate path. Trying to worry MOCA users about liability is inappropriate and a disservice. I can almost hear my Grandma saying "What Chutzpah!"
Looks like the MOCA test is following the path of the MMSE where it is a pay to play scenario (see pic). I guess we need to move to the SLUMS? #geriatrics #dementia #Alzheimer

The public health epidemic no one is talking about... - Lown Institute lowninstitute.org/news/blog/…
In praise of slowness and the need to develop *tiempo giusto* — “you’ve got to have a range of speeds. Like any piece of music, you can’t have just one tempo.”
"The point that Bertrand Russell makes persuasively and eloquently is that there is an intimate link between slowness and living more deeply and fulfillingly." Carl Honoré (@carlhonore) discusses the best books on slow living. fivebooks.com/best-books/slo…

Since 1996, the list price of insulin has increased by 1,300% in the U.S. Patients w/o insurance or on #HDHP pay an average of $300 per vial for insulin. Its discoverers sold the patent to a university for $3 (Canadian), so it would be readily available to all who need it.
