🇮🇱 Interesting, isn’t it? Israel is constantly criticized over democracy, but what’s happening on the Palestinian side?🧐
For nearly 22 years, the Palestinian Authority has been led by the same man — Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen.
He was elected president in 2005 for a four-year term. That means new elections should have taken place in 2009. But they never happened. Abbas simply stayed in office, and he’s still there today.
He’s now 90 years old, and Palestinians haven’t had another chance to elect their president in more than two decades.
The situation with parliamentary elections isn’t much better. The last ones were held back in 2006.
In 2021, there was finally some hope that new elections would take place. But Abbas postponed them, citing difficulties with voting in East Jerusalem. Not everyone accepted that explanation. Palestinian opposition groups and human rights organizations criticized the decision.
And here’s what I find interesting.
In Israel, people regularly go to the polls, argue about politics, criticize their leaders, and vote governments out of office. A prime minister can lose an election and be replaced.
Meanwhile, in the Palestinian Authority, a president elected for just four years has remained in power for more than two decades without facing another presidential election.
Yet somehow, Israel is constantly the one being lectured about democracy.
Maybe before telling Israel how democracy should work, it’s worth taking a closer look at what’s happening right next door.

His first executive order on Day 1: a $100 million "Taxpayer Fraud Strike Force," with Gavin Newsom "top of our target list."
Hilton: "for years Newsom was warned by the state auditor... that billions of dollars were being stolen, and he did nothing about it."
He says the strike force would look at whether there was "criminal negligence."
Those are Hilton's allegations; no charges have been filed.
Newsom's office answered with: "Who is Steve Hilton?"
