If these served any other function that advertising then there could be a case made that justified the space theft.
Why not design these for use that counters the negs?
Green shield/pollution absorption, add a canopy/shelter from the rain, a little bench even? or just, no.
Do not like this one bit. Get off the road baby! #onlykiddin
It's enough to make new parents not want to leave the house and get any "fresh air"

“Cargo bike” for sale. On gum tree. Mobikes weren’t nice to cycle without extra weight but at least it isn’t in landfill? 😝 😬
Amazing. 42 hangars like boom. 36 charging station like boom. 1 new resident-led parklet like boom. More = More it seems!
#Wowzer busy day in @wfcouncil! Just signed off 42 new #BikeHangars, 36 new #EVCP, our 1st Resident led #Parklet, 1 new #LTN- #VallentinRd Scheme, another #20MPHZone in Chingford & of course the fantastic #HoeStreetCorridor Scheme! @willnorman @WeSupportWFMH @London_Cycling

Paddington needs more racks. Good to see...
This is a lot of bicycles.
Turns out, lots of Londoners cycle to the train station.
Actually, @nationalrailenq - we think Paddington might need a bit more cycle parking! (Would be great to see spaces for non standard cycles too)
A good start and hopefully more supporting elements to come.
14 staying out of 14 trialled is a positive endorsement to the vision of creating people friendly streets in #Levenshulme
Looking forward to seeing good design embedded in the filters…and maybe some trees! ✌️🌲
Well this is nice 👍 glad there will be lasting change. And there definitely has been an improvement. Particularly around Albert Road. Hope they look good 🌿🌼. Sounds like @BurnageLabour have been briefed on plans too. Hopefully our neighbourhood haven’t been left in long grass

So much buzz, excitement and great feedback on the Barnes parklet’s first day!! This community space is for everyone whether you are enjoying refreshments from any of our fabulous local businesses or just meeting friends. Thanks to @AlexanderEhmann @putney_bid & @LBRUT officers
I’m feeling the realness of all the bits of street furniture in old modal filters here in Southside of Glasgow. Well used social spaces all over. #continental #Glasgow

managed by org like National Trust was the only way I saw this idea working. As can be quite isolated. Can be really great. Hope it doesn’t divert energy from city centre parks open for all and free to use - would be amazing if free- only then it’d be like actual highline.
Manchester gets a 'highline' as Castlefield viaduct set to become a National Trust garden in the sky. @mcrconfidential suggested this first in 2007, now @nationaltrust will deliver with @OurCastlefield Great news. @visit_mcr confidentials.com/manchester…
Waiting for a bus in Manchester just ain’t pleasant with baby. No wonder so many decide to get in their personal safety boxes. Adding to the havoc for others. Sort it out please @AndyBurnhamGM can help #Ideasforfree don’t want to opt out of buses so let’s make the ride a joy.
One issue with driver idling for lengthy period today. Request to turn off engine resulted in mouthful. Their pressure to leave the engine on and get out their cabs for a break is target related and poor form from everyone involved. #entitlement
so popular...City by City the UK is waking up to reprioritisation space for people. #BeltingWork #Manchester #London #Bristol #Glasgow #Birmingham +

LTNs are reduced to sorting rat-running/filters. Ambition of Active Neighbourhoods is much more. Shifting short trips, creating a safe environment/air quality/ school. I would like to see a TfGM doc that put weight behind the vision. Standardised approach and explained funding.
