Turtle season is upon us!! ⚠️ 🐢 Watch for your chelonian neighbors as you venture back into the world, because they are too! They’re traveling across the roads that separate them from their nesting grounds, and many crossing are females full of eggs to lay.

So far we have encountered 43 #leatherback #seaturtles this season. Of those, 3 were new untagged turtles, and 40 were recaptures. For comparison, by this date last year, we only had 19 encounters.😲

#SeaTurtleWeek continues! It's Leatherback Day! DYK leatherback turtles can dive 2/3rds of a mile deep, deeper than all but a couple of the larger species of whales. Their softer shell allows them to withstand the pressure of more depth. #racingextinction #leatherbackturtles
Did you know the leatherback sea turtle is the largest turtle in the world? Leatherbacks mostly eat jellyfish, are highly migratory, and have a leathery and somewhat flexible shell. #WorldSeaTurtleDay #SeaTurtleWeek Photo Credit: @USFWS
