UWA Reflects on Open Park Days for a Better Mountain Gorilla Festival
As Uganda prepares for the first-ever Mountain Gorilla Festival, UWA is turning lessons from the recent Open Park Days into action. With a focus on making tourism more accessible to Ugandans.
From affordable accommodation and transport to improved road and air connectivity, UWA is exploring partnerships that can make it easier for families to visit and experience Uganda’s national parks.
The festival, running 19-22 November 2026 in Kisoro, will celebrate gorilla conservation, community livelihoods, local enterprise and tourism, under the theme “Protecting Gorillas, Empowering Communities” and tagline “Run, Explore, Conserve.”
The programme will feature community activities, exhibitions, a conference, gorilla tourism experiences and the Virunga Gorilla Marathon.
Kisoro is ready. Come Run. Explore. Conserve.

MASTERCLASSES
Yesterday, we covered week 2/6 of our Digital Tourism Masterclass as well as week 3/6 of our Tour Operations Masterclass
We learnt about creating websites with AI, the basics, tips and actual building of the websites. For tours, we tackled all the dynamics of itinerary writing. What to consider, which route to use and which alternatives to take in case uncertainties arise.
We see our Masterclass becoming more practical and relevant. And the audiences have turned up positively and are already appreciating the impact. Looking forward to a more diverse and structured program come next year!
Our target for 2026 already exceeded its limit 100 times more🙏
A sneak peak into the GMU Tourism Express Show on @ubctvuganda that featured @Solo_MDofficial and his business partner @Janice_Ke.
They indeed broke down the chronicles of Bwindi and Mgahinga when it comes to premiere primate experiences.
Today, we unfold the journey and fruits of our Conservation efforts for the financial year 2025/26. In a high-end stakeholder breakfast at SKYZ Hotel.
Not there in person? Worry not, just tune into UWA TV our official YouTube channel to catch everything.
A blessed day ahead!

Today, I had an engaging session with ranger recruits at the @ugwildlife Training Academy, Lugaya where we discussed communication, attitude, patriotism and institutional communication hierarchy.
I emphasized that being a good ranger goes beyond physical fitness and discipline. It requires effective communication, a positive attitude, respect for the chain of command and a genuine love for one's country.
Every ranger is an ambassador of UWA and Uganda. How they communicate, conduct themselves and relate with the public shapes the image of the Authority and builds public trust. I challenged them to serve with integrity, professionalism and pride because protecting wildlife is not just a job, but a patriotic duty.
I was particularly impressed by the recruits' enthusiasm, energy and active participation. They are eager and ready to serve.

Today, unidentified community members blocked the road in Wanale to prevent @ugwildlife and other security personnel from attending a meeting with Mbale district leaders to discuss issues relating to the boundary of Mt Elgon National Park.
Not nice!
