Final tune-up before Sunday’s half marathon! 5 x 3 min at half marathon pace, followed by 4 x 200m fast. The 3-minute reps felt harder than I expected, but the 200s felt awesome! Definitely carrying some fatigue from the marathon build, but hoping to get some freshness back in the legs before Sunday. Excited to see where my fitness is! #HalfMarathon #MarathonTraining #RunningWorkout #RoadToStJude #DougRunsLong

80 MILE WEEK! First time ever hitting that milestone! 💪 A big week of mileage, quality workouts, and a 24-mile long run to cap it off. The legs are definitely feeling the work, but this is exactly what I’ve been building toward. Less than 6 weeks until the St. Jude Marathon. Time to keep stacking the work and trusting the process! #MarathonTraining #80MileWeek #RoadToStJude #DistanceRunning #DougRunsLong

A higher VO₂ max doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the faster runner. Dr. Melissa Puppa explains why there’s more to performance than just one number. 24 miles this morning with 18 miles steady around 6:30 pace! Perfect weather, fueling was on point, and the effort felt controlled throughout. Definitely felt the distance in my legs, but finished feeling like I had more in the tank. Big marathon-specific workout in the books! 6 weeks until St. Jude! #MarathonTraining #LongRun #RoadTo235 #DistanceRunning #DougRunsLong

Finally starting to feel like myself again! 7 x 1 mile repeats this morning, holding every rep between 5:30–5:35 pace with 90 seconds recovery. Everything felt smooth, controlled, and surprisingly natural. After battling illness and struggling through some workouts, this was a huge confidence boost. Fitness is coming around at the right time! #MarathonTraining #RoadToStJude #DistanceRunning #RunningWorkout #DougRunsLong

Nothing better than dreading getting in the pool, only to end up having a great swim! Sometimes the hardest part is just getting started. 🏊‍♂️ #SwimTraining #TriathlonTraining #EnduranceTraining #Consistency #JustKeepSwimming

Beautiful weather for some miles on the bike today! ☀️🚴‍♂️ After my conversation with @seanjacobs901 this morning about breathwork and recovery, I made a conscious effort to focus on my breathing throughout the ride. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Sometimes it’s good to forget about the metrics and just focus on the basics! #CyclingLife #Breathwork #EnduranceTraining #MindfulMovement #milesincommon

10 miles on the treadmill this morning, followed by 2,000 yards in the pool this afternoon. I’ll be honest, I was absolutely dreading that swim. The last thing I wanted to do was jump in the pool after already putting in the miles. But I know these are the sessions that add up. The ones you don’t necessarily want to do, but you do anyway because you know they’re making you stronger. Not every workout is exciting. Sometimes it’s just about showing up, putting in the work, and trusting the process. Another brick in the wall. #MarathonTraining #fitdadclub #EnduranceTraining #RunningCommunity #TrustTheProcess

78 miles last week, and this one was all about bouncing back from illness. Started the week feeling pretty rough, but slowly found my legs again and finished strong! 💪 Excited to get some serious workouts back in the mix this week and see what I’ve got. Time to make the most of these final big weeks before the marathon taper! 🔥🏃‍♂️

22.5 miles in the books this morning! 🏃‍♂️ After battling illness the last couple of weeks and struggling to get my legs back under me, today finally felt like a return to normal. The plan was a progression long run, and while I struggled to pick up the pace over the final 7 miles, I was able to hold steady despite some tough hills and tired legs. 22.5 miles, 6:59 average pace, and 866 feet of climbing. Not perfect execution, but a big confidence boost after a frustrating couple of weeks. 7 weeks until St. Jude. Time to keep building! 💪 #MarathonTraining #StJudeMarathon #RoadTo235 #LongRun #DougRunsLong

Feels good to get some actually aerobic volume in. Today I hit the trifecta- early morning bike, late morning run, afternoon swim. Tomorrow, I have a 22 mile long run. This will be a big test to see if I’ve recovered sufficiently from my illness. #fitdadclub #fitnessjourney #running #marathon #cycling

1 day at a time, feeling a little closer to normal… Itching to get back after it… set backs are frustrating, but light a fire under me. #fitdadclub #running #treadmill #marathon #fitnessjourney

Today’s run, brought to you by @greatwolflodge . Still not feeling 100%, but through in a 15 sec effort during each mile to add some intensity. Good news is, I actually had a little turnover in the legs. Hoping I can bounce back soon. This is taking waaay longer than I expected it to take…

Nothing says vacation like doing laps around the hotel to get your miles in! Still trying to get my legs back under me. Got a few more days of hotel loops! #running #vacationworkout #fitnessjourney #strava #marathon

Not exactly how I envisioned this phase of my marathon build going. After getting hit pretty hard with an illness this past week, I’ve had to cut back my running volume, eliminate cross-training, and put all intensity on hold. I’m feeling better overall, but my legs still have absolutely nothing in them. No pop, no turnover, no ability to push the pace. It’s frustrating, especially being in such a critical phase of the build. These are supposed to be some of my biggest weeks of training before the taper, and instead I’m just trying to get back to normal. The plan this week is to gradually rebuild some easy volume, see how my body responds, and hopefully salvage a couple of solid weeks of marathon-specific training before taper time. Not ideal, but sometimes training doesn’t go according to plan. Just hoping the work I’ve already put in carries me through. #MarathonTraining #RunningJourney #MarathonBuild #DistanceRunning #RoadToStJude
