2025 Labour: we will raise the minimum wage and it'll have no impact on bussiness. 1000s of jobs are lost, 1000s more vacancies disappear, SMEs say they cannot afford the hike, businesses warn they are at breaking point. 2026 Labour: well that went swimmingly, let's do it again.

I’m sure @andyburnham post will get some views now but we know he changes his mind as the day goes on He’s worse than Starmer on u-turns @KemiBadenoch needs to highlight his hypocrisy
There is nothing socialist about a system of free movement that is used by multi-nationals to undermine wages. WATCH my Brexit speech today.

🚨 Punter wins £997k from £4 corners accumulator - Villa fan bet £4 on 12 EFL matches all exceeding 11.5 corners - Bet won him a staggering £997,385 in total - Started as a casual weekend accumulator with friends - At half-time, several games showed worryingly low corner counts - Reading-Barnsley had just one corner at the break - Corners flooded in across all 12 games in the second half - Oxford-Bradford had zero goals but 14 corners combined - Didn't realise he'd won until half an hour after games ended - Needed wife to confirm the amount, called it "emotional" - Plans to pay off mortgage, buy a car, take a family holiday

THREAD (1/7) Britain’s Budget on Wednesday is expected to be low-key. After recent chaos, that is no bad thing. But escaping the country’s economic drift will require something far bolder: a dose of shock therapy. My latest column for @FT: as.ft.com/r/aa18babc-96c7-4f…

A wee stat ahead of Wednesday's budget, on a policy that almost certainly won't change: In 2021, roughly 1 in 10 full-time nurses paid 40% income tax. In 2026, it's closer to 1 in 3. That's the power of the "fiscal drag" tax. The term "high earner" has been quietly redefined.

Agree. With the Personal Allowance frozen at Ā£12,570, then if the State Pension rises, then obviously it should be subject to income tax. However, I would also make PIP, Universal Credit and all other benefits subject to income tax too. Why shouldn’t they be?
Why should a pensioner on a £13K income be exempt from income tax when a person of working age is not? Those of working age do not receive free travel or all sorts of other discounts to which pensioners are entitled. We do not exempt people from tax based on how many dependents they have, or how much housing in their area costs, so why exempt individuals based on age?

.@andyburnham do something about scran gaffs charging you more money for food when you choose delivery over pick up. No reason a double cheese burger from Maccies should be Ā£1 more just coz I want some fella to drive it to my house when I’m already paying for that service anyway

Abdul is not the only Muslim to run for the Senate. Mehmet Oz ran in 2024. No one ran against Oz because he’s a Muslim. That’s because Oz didn’t call Israel Bloodthirsty. Oz didn’t write an oped urging support for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Oz didn’t have donors who belonged to the MB. Oz didn’t blame terrorism on the policies of the US. And Oz didn’t justify a terrorist on a synagogue. This race isn’t about Abdul’s faith. It’s about his extremist ideas.
El-Sayed: "We had a little debate. Or I had a debate and he just pointed at me and said, 'He's Muslim.'"

The public supports her- that’s why she makes a sign. They blame the school when the school is protecting the other children from her child. She needs to take responsibility for being a bad mother. But no politician (right or left)will ever say this.

Norway’s equivalent NHS has mandatory charges for GP appointments, consultations and tests. If any political party here advocated something similar, journalists like Faisal would hysterically report it as fascism. If we did have a sovereign wealth fund, the BBC would be busily pumping out stories about how it invests in data centres while people are dying on waiting lists now look at this struggling food bank. Political journalists need to stop advocating policies modelled on foreign fiscal prudence - as their screeching and hyperbole would make them impossible to apply here. Our political journalists and their awful takes are one of the reasons the county’s in such a mess.
NEW Britain’s missing sovereign wealth fund… Treasury officials have modelled that had the UK done what Norway did with North Sea revenues, there would be a Ā£1 trillion fund… As Chancellor sets up Energy Wealth Fund, a look at the long historical argument about where the oil windfall went, including from interviews with those who have run Norways $2.4 trillion fund, now the biggest in the world, filled from the proceeds of the same North Sea. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm4g…

The success of the likes of Villa Palace Brighton Bournemouth etc can be a game changer for European football but in a positive way Money needs limiting at the top end so clubs Europe wide aren’t miles apart on spending Ā£600m max considered revenue for the books

Now they’re coming for entrepreneurs. Labour originally introduced entrepreneurs relief in recognition of the insane amounts of unpaid work and risk taking people put into building a business. They want us to build value in the economy but also they want to send a message to entrepreneurs that the rewards for doing so are now cut short. If they go ahead with this it’s another reason for UK entrepreneurs to go build something somewhere else.
The latest Treasury leak is that Labour will hike the rate of capital gains tax that applies to entrepreneurs who sell their businesses. The rate originally introduced by Labour in 2008 at 10% has already been raised by Reeves to 18%. Craig Beaumont of the Federation of Small Businesses said ā€œSmall business owners work hard through their lives and rely on entrepreneurs’ relief when selling their business to fund their retirement. This relief has already been reduced and limited – it must not be thoughtlessly discarded.ā€ The spin coming from the Treasury is that incentives will be introduced instead to encourage business owners to reinvest their proceeds in new businesses. But what happens if owners just want to sell and retire? There used to be retirement relief from CGT but Labour scrapped that in 2003. This new attack on CGT Entrepreneurs' Relief is just another anti-business move by today's anti-business Labour Party.

😳 Tommy Robinson voicemail played in court: ā€œI’ll make you famous and your families like you’ve done to mineā€ Tommy: ā€œIf it’s fair game, then I’m a journalist. I’m going to cover you and your families like you’ve just done to mine. You put pictures of innocent people you know are my kids and you’ve given their locations. If that’s legitimate journalism, then expect me to come knocking. I’ve already located every one of you. I’ve got pictures of every one of you that can go in my story. I’m not threatening you with violence or anything like that. What I’m promising you is I’ll make you famous, and your families, because that’s what you’ve done to me.ā€ Why is Tommy Robinson on trial for harassment when he was simply telling the journalist he would treat him and his family the same way the Mail had already treated him and his children? The journalist published pictures and location details about his family holiday. He responded by saying he would do the same in return. Yet he is the one standing trial. Absolutely ridiculous. Once again it proves the system is corrupt and they just want Tommy locked up and silenced.
