Having just retired, my most special objects are the cards, letters and small handmade gifts patients have given me over the years.

Did you know that the business class on international flights comes with an extra seatbelt strap across your chest? Apparently, the more you pay, the more of you the airline wants to save. Couldn’t they spare a few extra inches of fabric for the peasants in the back? I mean, you can’t make this sh*t up.

After watching the movie, Tony, two weekends ago, I decided to watch Anthony Bourdain‘s documentary. It was so sad seeing how he spiraled, and how dark of a soul he harbored. He said so himself - that no matter the fame, he just couldn’t be happy. Was it earning more and more that makes us feel less and less? Or is it something inherent in ourselves that makes us unable to be truly happy for what we have?

I took a quick break from building things to open a gift from Japan. Somehow, I ended up with new earrings, a tiny lesson in ASMR, and the packaging on my wrist. drcorriel.com/apparently-i-k…

Physicians remain medicine’s clinical experts, yet many have lost authority over how care is delivered. What happened to physician autonomy, agency, and leverage? doctorsonsocialmedia.com/mos… Thank you, @DrCorriel, for including my reel in this powerful article. The lack of physician control over patient care delivery is dangerous and frustrating for patients and physicians alike. What patients see as indifference to their suffering is physician disempowerment and burnout. I encourage all physicians to join @somedocs, as it provides a place for us to discuss issues like this across multiple specialties. There is no reason not to join: membership is free, and you will meet fantastic, inspiring peers. @noahkaufmanmd @Terrilox @crappiedoc @DrDadBuilder @pgipe

I’m reading Dan Brown’s Secret of Secrets. Does anyone else get just a wee bit tired of the book hero always being so perfect and right?

In case anyone wants to read my comedic take on the frustrations of dealing with a corporate world, through an @IKEA @IKEAUSA order, here it is: drcorriel.com/ikea-and-im-st…

Replying to @IKEAUSA
@IKEAUSA/@IKEA may have just given me the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. So buckle up. We ordered a bed for my son’s new Miami apartment. IKEA gave us the option to have it delivered even if no one was home. We selected it. They didn’t deliver it. Then they blamed us for not being home. A thread. 🧵

9/ And then we finally arrived at the apartment. Here’s the kicker. Other parents were ALREADY INSIDE. The doorman knew exactly where the apartment was and told them. The roommate’s parents had their own @IKEA @ikeausa delivery arriving and told the delivery people they were happy to sign for my son’s order too. They told us they couldn’t believe our delivery person had simply left. The exact word they used was “lazy”.

10/ So @IKEA @ikeausa: ✔️ Offered unattended delivery ✔️ Specifically said a front desk could accept it ✔️ Took our over $800 ❌ Didn’t leave the order ❌ Blamed us for not being home ❌ Blamed us for not answering a phone while flying ❌ Wouldn’t redeliver it ❌ Wouldn’t escalate the call ❌ Hung up on me ✔️ Prioritized my “note” IKEA, perhaps you could deprioritize the note and prioritize delivering the bed we paid for under the delivery terms you offered us. Because right now, your customer service policy appears to be: Offer the customer an unattended-delivery option. Then blame the customer for being unattended. As an entrepreneur myself, this is poor customer service, and makes people not want to shop with you again. I’ll be writing an article about this and circulating it, because the aggravation I experienced needs to be channeled somewhere (other than a morning walk from the hotel room I needed to pay for, and will continue to do so until there’s a physician bed to sleep on).
