Whoa - Google AI answers are claiming @drhopesicknotes was suspended as a Doctor and it completely made it all up youtube.com/watch?v=_5Djs6fg…

Well said, @TYoungstein. Those of us with safety concerns around the role of PAs - now, finally, corroborated by Leng - were smeared as an irrational, toxic rabble. I think Chris Whitty owes doctors an apology. As do @RCPhysicians, @JimBethell et al.
Whilst reading the Leng review & considering the @RCPhysicians response (irony itself)
It’s worth remembering this exchange from the exPRCP & current CMO
It seems the passionate minority whose rationality was “way down the list..beyond being swayed” - were actually correct?

I fundamentally believe we now need a national inquiry into how the PA project got to the stage it did where it caused so much harm
We need to hold the likes of @Jeremy_Hunt @AmandaPritchard @NavinaEvans @DacreJane @profjimspeaks @pa_StephenNash @ClareGerada @RCPhysicians et al accountable and they should be apologising to those whose families have suffered harm and to residents for ruining their careers

As an NHS doctor I resent this deeply
Why are my mandatory GMC fees being used to pay for private health care for GMC employees?!
I don’t even have private healthcare myself!
**£642,000 spent on 1066 staff** ‼️
I do NOT give consent for my fees to be used in this way! 🤬
In 2023, @gmcuk awarded a four-year £2.8 million contract for private medical insurance (£700k per year) 💰
The tender documents show the actual spend on private medical insurance in 2022-23 was £642k for 1066 staff
This is equivalent to 3690 x FY1 fees or 2006 x PA fees

Just wanted to give a massive 👏 to the FY2 doctor on @LBC with Wes Streeting today:
Dr: “Why are PAs (who are meant to be dr’s assistants) paid more than me as a doctor?”
Wes: “Well, what’s your earning potential?”
Dr: “Well I’m facing unemployment from August”
Slam dunk.

‘The PAs told the undercover reporter they saw all sorts of patients, sometimes without any clinical supervision. They said the practice treated them as equivalent to GPs.’
Tell me again how PAs are safe medical practitioners

Replying to @ShaunLintern
@gmcuk are unfit to practice as a regulator
Unregistered people breaking the law prescribing medications & ordering ionising radiation by breaking UK law- GMC plans to give them Registration without investigation
GP protested peacefully? Suspended from register

So the PA examined and took the history of a patient.
And the tribunal determined that the doctor failed in their duties for not examining the patient or taking a history themselves and in addition to the PA.
What exactly is the purpose of a PA in this medico-legal context?
A fitness to practise tribunal (MPTS) determines that a PA's history should be repeated by a doctor and a PA's examination should be repeated by a doctor too.

I can’t believe this 🤬
@gmcuk what are you playing at?!
THIS is who you choose to suspend?! The GP of over 30 years said:
"As a doctor, my fundamental duty is to protect health and life. This includes proactive efforts to prevent disease and death.
The climate crisis is the most significant existential threat to global health we have ever faced.”
I applaud her & I stand with her! 👏👏
SHAME ON YOU GMC! We witness your decision in outrage!

Absolutely.
This is a significant part of the problem.
Another significant part of the problem is people advocating that less qualified and unregulated “associates” with less training, and both lower training and entry standards, are suitable alternatives to GPs.
Who knew?! 🤷🏻♂️

Top trolling of junior doctors by whatever Trust is responsible for this (not the PAs’ fault, so I’ve obscured their faces). Can they not read the bloody room? All evidence points to majority disquiet amongst doctors re the #PAProject & having a dig a doctors’ strikes is not cool

These types of incidents aren't rare. Yet drs are vulnerable & feel unable to speak up. Pressured & bullied.
Emblematic of a crippling NHS a CT1 anaesthetist left to be the med reg at night unsupported.
This should never happen.
I'd be fuming.

NHSE have mandated (finally!) that ALL work undertaken by PAs must be supervised by the GP
What does “supervision” mean?
If GP needs (& should) see every patient too…what is the role of a PA in GP?
It’s a direct doubling of work & a waste of everyone’s time & money.

“Physician associates” with no medical training
➡️ REPLACING doctors❗️
“Nursing assistants” with no nursing training
➡️ REPLACING nurses❗️
“Pharmacist technicians” with no pharmacy training
➡️ REPLACING pharmacists❗️
I’ve an idea - let’s try “Politician associates” next!
This morning, during the @CommonsHealth pharmacy inquiry, I asked the Health Minister about the blurring of the lines between the responsibilities of technicians and clinical pharmacists within pharmacies.
