Extremely exciting to share the new #PrimaryAldosteronism guidelines. Big advance in suggesting that all hypertensive adults should be screened for PA. Let's diagnose and treat every patient with this common, deleterious but highly treatable disease! @WeArePAOrg @TheEndoSociety
The New @TheEndoSociety #PrimaryAldosteronism Clinical Guideline session now #ENDO2015
with Profs @m_stowasser & Gail Adler chairing the committee , and @AnandVaidya17 @DrJunYang & other experts in the committee

More evidence for treating hypertension with mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, if renin is low despite ACE-inhibition. It is probably #PrimaryAldosteronism!
Work smarter, not harder!
A low renin with concurrent use of ACEi/ARB is almost certainly some shade of Primary Aldosteronism.
Either way, aldosterone-directed therapy is very likely to provide major clinical benefits

Do patients want to be screened for primary aldosteronism: Yes
How much PA can be identified with a direct-to-patient approach: A Lot
Can this approach be implemented nationwide: Yes

Deeply grateful for an EL2 @nhmrc investigator grant- my team will continue research and capacity building to facilitate the timely diagnosis and effective management of #PrimaryAldosteronism. @Hudson_Research @A5_Adrenal @WeArePAOrg @EndoSocAus @HypertensionAus @MonashHealth
We're thrilled to share that three @SCSMonash researchers have secured @nhmrc Investigator Grants to advance critical medical research in SLE, hypertension, and women's health 🧵

People with #lupus experience a high burden of #hypertension and #heart disease. Should they be screened for #PrimaryAldosteronism? In our cohort of 322 patients with lupus, 30% has an indication for PA screening, only 3% were tested. @SCSMonash @Hudson_Research @MonashHealth
Delighted to share this collaborative work evaluating #PrimaryAldosteronism testing in hypertensive patients with #lupus. More research is needed. lupus.bmj.com/content/12/1/e… @DrJunYang @alberta_hoi @Lupus_SM @MonashCID @SCSMonash @CEM_Hudson @Hudson_Research @MonashHealth

I haven't baked properly for a long time, as it takes time away from writing, reviewing, editing, research in general... but gee, it felt amazing to have completed my first chestnut cake for a special occasion!
A trial of #finerenone in treating #PrimaryAldosteronism. As expected, it was as good as spironolactone at lowering BP, without the adverse effects. Now we need a larger RCT. @WeArePAOrg @EndoSocAus @TheEndoSociety @HypertensionAus @Hudson_Research ahajournals.org/doi/abs/10.1…

#AVS (adrenal vein sampling) helps identify surgically curable #PrimaryAldosteronism. It is complex, with variable success rates. What are key elements to success, through an implementation lens? @WeArePAOrg @EndoSocAus @TheEndoSociety @Hudson_Research @SCSMonash @A5_Adrenal
