ALT Quote from Melissa Carroll, PhD as well as her photo: “As anatomy educators, we need to demonstrate the diversity of individuals along the continuum of physical traits that we see in skin tone, habitus, age, and lived experience. Lived experience includes the diversity of scars, tattoos, amputations, abilities, and self-identification. Our project is unique because it asks our models and creatives (photographers and illustrators) to voluntarily self-identify so that we can further reflect on the inclusivity of what it means to be human.”

The abstract reads: It is the goal of this talk to explore how racism plays a role in weight bias and weight stigma. We will explore the intersection of race and weight in both modern and historical societal contexts before we move on to look at how medicine and clinicians also play a role in bias and stigma. Finally, we will look at the effect of weight bias and stigma on larger people and how we, as anatomical educators, clinicians, and students, can do better. #ReclaimingtheBody #BlackinAnatWeek
