The statement “Over the long term, it's better to buy stocks in small companies” stopped being broadly true after the early 1980s. Since then, large-cap stocks have dominated performance perplexity.ai/search/when-di…

There aren't many prominent left-wing leaders willing to think for themselves and then defend conclusions even though it's not what the left-wing flock wants to hear. @yanisvaroufakis is not only one of the smartest leftists but one of the few who will never pander. Read this:
I am going to write something below that should be seen as the musings of one who celebrated – and still celebrates – Lula’s victory over Bolsonaro Jr. Here it goes:
I cannot for the life of me justify why o why Brazil’s courts had to demand of Bolsonaro that he hands over his passport the moment he lost the election. That he disputed the veracity of the election result is a sign of a faulty character, evidence that he is a bad loser. BUT, he had every right to being a bad loser; to dispute, rightly or wrongly, any result.
As for the argument that he was being investigated for other misdemeanours or crimes, that doesn’t wash either: What would have happened if Bolsonaro had won the election? Would the judges also prevent him from travelling abroad, as President-elect? I very much doubt that – which means that the judges were conflating executive and judicial powers.
To those who tell me that the Bolsonaro clan is a fascistic, criminal family, my reply is: You and I may very well think that. Alas, the judiciary has no right to use its powers to indict and to pursue someone because – or immediately after – they lost an election. It is shameful, to be precise. And it is also dangerous for those of us on the left who know what it means to be banned and hounded by rogue judges and police commissioners.
But I also have a message to Bolsonaro supporters, or those sitting on the fence, who assume that Lula is somehow behind the judges. He is not! This is the same court that imprisoned, falsely, Lula himself. What we have in Brazil is a judiciary that overreaches and habitually crosses the line that ought to separate judicial from political power.
It is such a shame that a judge took it upon himself to go after Bolsonaro on the eve of his defeat and, in doing so, to sully Lula’s stupendous victory.
One last point that my comrades in Brazil should note: If Bolsonaro and Rubio wanted to mount a campaign against Lula and Brazilian democracy they could never have been aided better than by that judge’s reckless writ.

The US is the only developed economy delivering strong growth.
US GDP grew 3.4%, beating 3.2% expected. Consumption and investment power ahead. Inflation remains elevated, but mostly due to refined products.
considering 2.5% in Q1, 2.2 in Q2%, and 3.4% in Q3 the annualised real growth rate is coming in at 2.7% for now, with most yearly expectations for GDP 2026 being at 2.5% (IMF)
Core PCE in line with expectations, at a 0.3% MoM and 3.1% YoY
Headline PCE in line at 0.5% MoM and 3.6% YoY
The jump in refined products in september is driving most of the spike.

With the reported investigations unfolding, the Alaska decoy scandal has the makings of a major scandal with possible criminal and civil elements. Staffers would be wise to "lawyer up," but they may want to avoid their campaign lawyers for the moment... jonathanturley.org/2026/10/2…

US GDP growth figures out this morning show a robust 3.4%, exceeding all expectations.
That is more than double the anemic 1.6% in poor beleaguered Australia, and well above Europe (2.4%) and the UK (2%). Beats me how anyone with any ambition for a better life could vote for leftists.

This is crooked and fraudulent. The Democrat party should be ashamed of itself.
JUST IN: Democrat operatives spent months finding Alaskans with the same name as Republican Dan Sullivan so they could confuse voters and help Mary Peltola (D), according to The New York Times.
A staffer was tasked with finding every voter named "Dan Sullivan" in the state and then contacting them and coaxing them to run for Senate.
The plan worked when a man named "Dan J. Sullivan," a retired teacher from a small fishing village that can only be reached by air or ocean, announced he was running.
He has held no campaign events, has given very few interviews, and has voted for Democrats in the past.
As The Times reported, the Peltola campaign claims it had no involvement in recruiting "Dan J. Sullivan"; however, documents suggest the campaign was actively involved and that the operation was "much broader."
"The endeavor, which was internally called the ballot composition project, involved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs," the NYT reports.
Peltola was reportedly "definitely aware" of what was going on, according to Peltola's former campaign manager Elisa Rios.
Alaska is expected to be one of the closest elections this cycle, and as of now, Peltola is the only Democrat, while there are two Dan Sullivans and another republican named Gerald Heikes, who was also allegedly recruited to take votes from Senator Sullivan.
The New York Times reports that they have evidence from *12 people* who participated in the plot.
These communists will do something like this and then tell you they are defending democracy.

The WashPost -- like the WSJ -- has an editorial today sounding the alarm on Brazil's authoritarianism.
Its point -- like mine and everyone's -- isn't that Bolsonaro is innocent. It's that Judge Alexandre de Moraes is a tyrant who persecutes political enemies with no limits.

I did say we'd be releasing our models periodically...introducing Gemini 4 Carbon, our next frontier model.
Following Argon's release just two weeks ago, Carbon shows the pace at which we’re pushing the frontier, it ranks #1 on the recently updated v5.0 of @ArtificialAnlys Intelligence Index at 59. It also leads across key cybersecurity evaluations scoring 88.2% on SEC-bench Pro for finding vulnerabilities, 54.8% on ExploitGym for exploitation, and 71.0% on CWE-bench for patching.
We’re seeing significant improvements in long-horizon tasks even compared to Argon, and we’ve strengthened frontier safeguards.
As we did with Argon, we’re going to roll it out gradually + responsibly. Some trusted cyber defenders will get access starting this week. We'll be expanding it to more partners through our Fairwind Program, ahead of wider availability soon, so hang tight!

Warren Buffett: “The most important quality for an investor is temperament, not intellect.”
A falling price can make a sound thesis feel wrong. A rising price can make a weak thesis feel right.
The advantage belongs to the investor who can separate what the market is doing from what the business is doing.

For those who decided to invent some bizarre new authoritarian law-and-order rule today to justify Moraes' ban on Bolsonaro leaving the country -- that if you're under investigation (without even being charged), it's normal to have your passport seized -- please note:
Lula's son is engulfed in several major financial scandals and investigations relating to lobbyist corruption. His passport has never been seized or cancelled. In fact, he left Brazil to go live in extreme luxury in Spain (in the same neighborhood where several of the world's highest-paid soccer players live), where nobody can explain the source of what appears to be his great wealth.
Countless rich and powerful people in Brazil, including Lula's allies, are under investigation yet freely leave the country when they want: jetting off to Dubai, France, wherever. Truly bizarre how some on the left start fabricating extremist police powers when it suits them.
Brazilian authorities and media are trying to find out where Flavio Bolsonaro is.
Brazil's notorious authoritarian Judge Alexandre de Moraes -- before the votes were counted -- already had an order prepared to seize Bolsonaro's passports and bar him from leaving the country even though **he's been charged with no crime** (there are various pending financial investigations). Moraes signed the order barring Bolsonaro from leaving Brazil SEVEN MINUTES after Lula was declared the winner on Sunday night.
A media outlet in Argentina this morning reported that Bolsonaro entered Argentina to fly to the US. His friends and allies deny this, but Flavio could easily just appear in Brazil or even by video and has not done so. Argentina is being sketchy, evasive and somewhat uncooperative with Brazil's federal police (Lula and Milei are obviously not allies).
Whatever else is true, it is not exactly a sign of a healthy, normal or functioning democracy when the candidate who narrowly loses a presidential race -- and concedes defeat -- is suddenly barred from leaving the country by a Supreme Court Judge now globally notorious for censoring, imprisoning and otherwise persecuting his critics and opponents of Lula's government. It is also worth noting that Bolsonaro's party dominates the Senate, having run on a vow to impeach Moraes, and this is seen by many as a kind of leverage/hostage ploy by Moraes to cling to power.

If, by the way, the same situation that just happened in Brazil had happened but with the parties switched -- if Bolsonaro had won last night's election and then a pro-Bolsonaro judge sent the Federal Police to seize Lula's passport and bar him from leaving the country -- every major western media outlet and liberal NGOs would be screaming about the authoritarian attack on Brazil's elections and the destruction of basic freedoms.

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon says Democrats have moved too far left, become too anti-business, and lost touch with common sense: “Stop blaming successful people for everything.” 🇺🇸
“I think they just got too far to the left, too anti-business, and too lacking in common sense.
Climate change is a real issue. Did we do a lot of intensely stupid things? We did, and people know that. Did we overdo DEI in a lot of cases? Yeah, we did.
Who thinks that if we give Washington another trillion dollars, it would be well spent instead of going to special interest groups? The inefficiency in the system is extraordinary.”
Stop dragging down America. Stop blaming successful people for everything.
Fix the schools. Lift up lower-paid people. I would double the Earned Income Tax Credit. That’s the best way to get money back in their hands.”
Jamie is a realist and that pisses a lot of people off. It’s what happens when you fail to identify with one party in complete unison. Having the ability to critically think through issues is beyond rare these days and exactly why we as a country have become so divided.

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon warns Europe is falling dangerously behind America economically… and blames anti-business, anti-investment, and anti-innovation policies. 🇺🇸🇪🇺
“If you don’t believe me, go to Europe, folks. Europe used to have a GDP per person of 90% of America’s. It’s now 65%. It’s on its way to 50%.
That will jeopardize the health of Europe itself over time.
And it’s all anti-business, anti-investment, anti-innovation. They kind of know it.
If they don’t fix it—and we should help them fix it, because Europe matters—it’s really bad for the Western world, too.
We should do it wisely.”
Europe shift over the past three decades has proven decimating for their economy. Aging population forces mass immigration in order to maintain adequate growth. Crazy regulation and bureaucracy slows innovation and investment… forcing the economy further down. At the same time, the United States has pulled ahead exponentially and will continue to do so. Europe is struggling.
