DuckTales premiered 39 years ago today. I loved that show. Not for the gold. For the idea that adventure meant going somewhere wild with people you love. It was Indiana Jones for kids. Nobody's making the movie, so I made the trailer. Sound on. ๐Ÿฆ†

This piece is spot-on. "Young people do not need propaganda, sedation, or TED-talk optimism. They can see the risks. What they do not need is an adult world that turns every difficulty into apocalypse, helps cultivate anxiety, and then congratulates itself on being realistic. The task is not to promise each new generation that everything will be fine. It is to stop telling them, directly or indirectly, that nothing can be done. To teach the young to fear the future rather than shape it is not realism. It is betrayal."
Young people are constantly told that democracy is dying, capitalism is exploitation, technology is dehumanizing, climate change means collapse, and the next generation will inherit a poorer and more dangerous world. It's no wonder that so many of them are anxious about the future. Serious problems deserve serious attention, but teaching young people to interpret every challenge as evidence of impending catastrophe doesnโ€™t make them wiser. It teaches them helplessness.

The Muppets have released a statement on the tragic passing of Tim Curry. โ€œFew humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry. As a performer, he was unparalleled โ€“ witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny. We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silverโ€™s crew. Thank you for everything, Tim.โ€
