It’s always a pleasure to chat with @DuaneOBrien! Check out our fireside chat for #GitHubUniverse Loved hearing him expand on his #opensource metaphor “It you want the forest to be there next year, you have to care for it this year.” 🌳🌲🌳
I had a great chat with @abbycabs a couple weeks ago for #GitHubUniverse where we talked about @IndeedEng's approach to sponsoring people with GitHub Sponsors. I hope you'll give it a listen! githubuniverse.com/events/de…

In advance of that talk, we just pushed out a major new round of sponsorships through GitHub Sponsors. We're sponsoring lots of new people - over 200 folks in total! We've worked to spread out funds out more broadly across the ecosystem. github.com/orgs/indeedeng/sp… Blog post soon.

Dude is free to run his business any way he wants. Just like I'm free to cancel my Tesla order, which I did. This account will go idle in about a week. I'll post info on where to find me next before I leave. I love y'all! <3

The Duane who occasionally has long things to say on Twitter is thinking about going back to blogging. I want to write content, not code. I want simple, hosted, ownership of my content, RSS support, and I'll pay for it. Everything else is negotiable. What do you like?

This is the thing that gets me. "Reduce that bill by a billion" as if no one ever bothered looking I don't care what you're spending on infra, if someone in the company has a viable way to save a million bucks, they'll point it out. Because they'll get a bonus, or promoted.
Replying to @QuinnyPig
This is exactly my point. As companies evolve they go through optimization passes. Saving a billion a year without massive re-engineering might (**MIGHT!!!**) be possible if and only if they had done none of this work ever before. They have.

A scrub through the Tw*tter L*yoffs hashtag was a toxic view into what I expect the site will look like going forward. It's bad enough that I didn't use the hashtag.

We're all kinda forgetting that thing the dude said a few weeks ago about ramping up to manufacture millions of cheap humanoid robots. Eh, it's fine. I'm sure it'll never come up.

OK since "how to manage your emotions when you get terminated" is my area of expertise, let me drop a couple tips. 1) It's perfectly normal to be angry. Schedule a couple of bitch sessions with your former coworkers and friends, where you can wallow! But don't do it forever,

Jackson 2.14.0-rc3 is now out, last chance to help weed out possible regressions. All help appreciated -- 2.14.0 final tentatively scheduled for release over the weekend (Nov 5th or 6th), no pending issues to resolve. But maybe you can change that? :-D

Great wisdom in this thread. My advice is more basic: Prepare to be depressed, and deploy appropriate countermeasures. Of all the things I got wrong in the Dotcom crash, that's what that hurt me the most. Build and maintain your connections before you need them to stay sane.

Friendly reminder to be your own advocate. I have had skin cancer before so I am extra cautious about regular exams. I found a spot on my scalp a few months ago and called my dermatologist frantically. 1/4

Can anyone help me understand the cold-email strategy that says "I see you're going to be at $EVENT. I sell things to people and I'd love to meet you. Please schedule a time with me using my calendar app!" In what world does that work?
