What made Celtic's victory in the 1967 European cup final was the manner in which Celtic played the game. Defensive tactics had been strangling football and Inter's catenaccio (door bolt) system had won them 2 European cups but Celtic ripped them apart...

Celtic: Defensive Principles
Back 4? Back 5? Systems shouldn't impact "Defensive Principles":
> Be Ball Orientated
> Narrow & Deepen to Ball-Side
> Force Wide & Shut Off Central Gaps
In 2nd & 3rd Goals for Roma last night you could see what looked like a complete misunderstanding of how to manage Celtics' Defensive Third:
> Scales & Trusty Adjusting to Ball-Side
> Not Shutting Off Danger Zones in the Box
> Closing Gaps Between Players
Each of the 2nd & 3rd Goals, including the disallowed 4th Goal are completely avoidable for me by following basic defensive principles when defending your box.
Thoughts?
