MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! Here's your 2 week reminder for our next #EBedchat about meeting the needs of ALL learners!! Who is coming?!
CJHS 9th graders in NYC at To Kill Mockingbird! Thanks Mrs. Merton & Mrs. Winard for a great experience!“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” -Harper Lee @EBPublicSchools
Mrs.Domond’s APII students are exploring the importance of the handkerchief in Shakespeare’s Othello. @EBEnglishDept @EBPublicSchools @EBHSprinc #shakespeareisfun #studentengagement #othello

When I thought I was already feeling so lucky as a teacher, Lois Lowry also responded! Now my Honors students have a chance to ask an author their questions too. I cannot wait to tell them! @EBEnglishDept
A6. For us to always remember it is not about class size, access to technology, or curricular resources rather the single most important factor that impacts a child’s experience at school is her or her teacher! Thanks @ekaplanteach for an awesome #EBedchat
I don't want this to end, but time is almost up! One last thing I want us all remember is that "Nothing changes if nothing changes" #ebedchat
A4. The Palette Lit Mag club at CJHS has been a huge success because it provides students with an artistic outlet to write and perform about anything they want! It has fostered such a positive community at CJHS. Thanks for making students feel like they matter @LA_LeClair!
Q4: “...the reliable presence of at least one supportive adult relationship and multiple opportunities for developing effective coping strategies ... are the essential building blocks for strengthening the capacity to do well in the face of adversity.” #ebedchat
A3. I think a perfect place for this in our English curriculum is with book clubs. We hope to group students in a club centered around a book they want to read and is at their level. This also gives our students choice!
A3: This is something I struggle with. It’s a balancing act that’s in constant flux. As we reflect on our curriculum, it’s crucial to identify our non-negotiable skills so we are better prepared to meet Ss where they are while still preparing them for what’s next. #EBedchat
#ebedchat (I need to get better at this!) 🤦🏻♀️
A2. Sharing personal stories to help students relate to us. I also think it’s important to help students understand the grades they receive in the class is not an indication of a teacher’s opinion about them. #EBedchat
Q2: So excited to see so many of you here! George Scott really got me thinking. One thing is “Children who have been traumatized, or have lived in chaotic circumstances, ‘need to be in environments that restore their sense of safety, control, and predictability…’”#ebedchat
A1. Jess Loux, English DC for grades 8-12. The importance of building relationships with our students and reading their body language-sometimes a “yuck” face can tell us more more about them! #Ebedchat
A special thank you to author @HopeJahren for her generous donation to our students and to EBHS English teacher @itskevyday for initiating this collaboration! We look forward to reading your book with our seniors #ebhs #nonfiction #EBenglishdeptisthebest
Challenge accepted! @LA_LeClair @ms_cascioli @itskevyday we need to get the 8-12 English Dept to represent on June 8th #EBedchat #EBEnglishdeptisthebest teapawt.net/ebproflearn/status/996…
We have great participation from some schools and none from others. I challenge each of us to encourage a colleague from another school or Department to join us on June 8 for our next #EBedchat.
Thanks for sharing this best practice with our department @LA_LeClair #EBedchat #EBEnglishdeptisthebest teapawt.net/la_leclair/status/9965…
A1: Close-reading analytical discussions using @padlet! Not only do the Ss feel more confident having online discussions, but it then becomes a resource they can use when writing lit analysis essays! #EBedchat teapawt.net/msspinato/status/99654…
A3. This year in our department meetings some teachers shared a best tech practice with their colleagues. These includes things like Padlet, Adobe Spark, FlipGrid and Piktocharts which definitely influenced others to try them out #EBedchat teapawt.net/msspinato/status/99654…
Finally getting to join the chat! I use google forms to poll the English dept to get feedback on assessments and curricular changes. This will help inform our summer PD work #EBedchat teapawt.net/msspinato/status/99654…
Ever wonder when and why kids lose the desire to read for pleasure? Here are some great ideas on how to reinvigorate that passion and love for books! #cjhs and #ebhs teachers, what else can we do to promote and encourage our students to read for fun? teapawt.net/multcult07/status/9922…

A5: Aside from self reflection, I find surveying staff and gaining their feedback is just as important especially when looking to make curricular changes for an upcoming school year. #EBedchat teapawt.net/mrgranito/status/99147…
Q5: How do you determine your personal professional learning goal? #EBedchat
