(1/3) This weekend’s #SundaySpotlight highlights efforts to help reduce opioid misuse via education about management of pain prior to surgery. It really demonstrates the role of patient engagement & empowerment- more education => less perceived pain!

I hear PT’s say their patients expect MT. Of over 80 people seeking care last 6/12 for disabling LBP only one asked for MT - the rest want to understand their pain and a plan to get living again. All had MT++ short term relief at best.@kieranosull @RodWhiteley @MaryOKeeffe007

What is the cause of your pain? “it’s my weak core - but I have done Pilates for ever...so how could that be?” “ every physio has told me that!” We need to change the narrative of LBP m.youtube.com/watch?v=dlSQLU…

Getting tired of the saying “the patient failed physical therapy.” Physical therapy is not a “treatment.” Dig a little deeper and what they failed is Hot packs, Ultrasound & Massage (HUMMERS). Physical therapists are too often defined by what they do rather than what they know. – at Lakewood, CO

Let's stop telling patients to sit up straight. The media/society/some physio's believe posture causes pain. Posture doesn't cause pain. Those in the waiting area WITHOUT pain normally have the 'worst posture' Pain isn't caused by posture! SLUMP SLOUCH RELAX. YOUR BACK IS STRONG!
