"Capitalism created the possibility of the win win win. It used to be a zero sum game where somebody won, somebody else lost.
The biggest mistake people make, intellectuals in particular, they still think we're in a zero sum world. They're obsessed with some billionaires because Bernie Sanders thinks that Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk somehow stole the money from the people.
They don't understand that it's this prosperity machine that's creating more, not just for those billionaires, but for everything that they're touching. They're creating value for their customers, they're creating value for their employees. Their suppliers are flourishing, their investors are seeing their capital go up. It can be reinvested and compound.
All philanthropy ultimately comes from business. That's where the profits are.
Where does all the taxes come from? It ultimately comes from business as well.
This is the engine that's lifting humanity out. The entrepreneurs are the drivers of that engine. Somebody like Elon Musk, he gets a very, very, very tiny sliver of the value that he creates for the whole world."

Naval Ravikant: “Networking is overrated… Do something great and your network will instantly emerge"
Naval offers the following advice to startup founders:
“Don’t spend your time doing meetings unless you really, really have to. I really think networking is overrated. There’s all these articles about how you’ve got to network more, and it makes me want to vomit.”
Instead he suggests:
“Go do something great and your network will instantly emerge. If you build a great product or if you get a good customer base, I guarantee you will get funded.”
Recruiting (customers and employees) and learning from really smart people are two exceptions. But don’t worry about building relationships with VCs or going to conferences early on. Just focus on your product, your team, and your users.

We saw this from a mile away, but today was a monumental change in trade policy toward global ecommerce in the US. The $800 US duty free de minimis went away for all countries. What are the implications?
• Firstly, the de minimis also played into the fentanyl crisis in the US, it was part and parcel with the "informal" clearance process where duties aren't assessed and items aren't checked, so drugs can be put into packages and easily shipped without scrutiny into the US. That's largely over.
• Secondly, the DM already went away from China in May and we saw what happened - Temu / Shein sales dropped by 50%+. As prices of products go up (via tariffs and no loophole), sales will decrease.
• However, the good news for foreign merchants is that the cross-border sales can be recouped if inventory is domiciled locally in the US so that duties can be assessed off the manufacturer's cost vs the retail cost.
• The clear winner will be US-based 3PLs. The cross-border arbitrage is gone so brands will start to move their inventory locally to the US. A corollary is that bonded warehouse are hot again (brands can pay duties only on the products they sell, helping with cash flow).
• There are still some open questions such as:
A) Is there a legal structure by which the cost of goods sold can be used as the declared value for paying tariffs on these ecommerce orders or is it the retail cost? I wouldn't risk declaring anything other than the price the US consumer paid without discussing with a trade attorney first. Scrutiny at the border is at an all time high.
B) How will the USPS handle this change? Today, even a basic thing like disclosing the country of origin is not part of most Postal mailings. So how will USPS even know how much to charge? And how will the funds be collected?
C) Will foreign businesses be able to setup non-resident importer structures (NRI) in the US going forward? This is the fast-track to doing business locally in the US, but rumor has it that this is on the chopping block as well.
If any non-US based business needs advice my DMs are open!

Onboarding a new client is always exciting. But when that same client comes back a few weeks later and says, “We’re so happy we’re moving our other (bigger) brand to you too"
That’s the kind of feedback that matters.
Words are nice but actions speak much louder.

I bring this up all the time…
@FTC please, for the love of god, make it easier to build shit in America.
The government is letting lawfare and class actions shut down factories.
@realDonaldTrump and @JDVance if you are serious about making more things in America, protect American factories from these lawsuits.
Raw sugar is being sued for lazy semantics. Olaplex was sued because 5% of their RAW INGREDIENTS came from overseas. Shinola was sued despite being the ONLY DOMESTIC WATCH BRAND.
People want to build here.
But we have created witch-hunts if you do.
China gives you money to open a factory. In America, you get sued.

What happens next with Chinese tariffs:
* 30% today
* Max it will snapback to is 54%. 145% isn’t coming back.
* Likely to end lower than 30% on non strategic goods ie clothing and drinkware
* Big tariffs on strategic categories
