Washington blamed Moscow for deliberately moving a Russian military satellite with an undisclosed mission close last week to a U.S.-registered satellite. defensenews.com/space/2026/1…
Europe’s counter-drone gap is no longer only a military problem. Governments are weighing powers for infrastructure operators to detect, jam or down drones, but unclear authority and liability may delay action when minutes matter.

At least 17 attacks with proven or suspected Russian direction hit NATO’s frontline states and Moldova in a month - from drone incursions to sabotage and maritime incidents. The hybrid warfare pressure below Article 5 is becoming harder to ignore.

Today, NATO Ambassadors met in the North Atlantic Council to discuss security in the Black Sea. NATO has already strengthened our posture along the eastern flank, including with counter-drone capabilities. NATO will be sending additional assets to the region, including support for surveillance, reconnaissance, and forensics. We will continue to stand united and ensure that we are ready and able to address any threat and to keep our one billion people safe

🇱🇹 After a drone carrying explosives violated Lithuanian airspace, the country is demanding changes to NATO procedures.
Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said consultations have begun that could allow unidentified objects detected by radar to be shot down without visual confirmation.
Lithuania’s Defense Ministry also announced it has begun deploying AN/TPS-77 MRR medium-range radars produced by Lockheed Martin.
The ministry said the new systems are intended to strengthen the country’s airspace surveillance capabilities.

🇱🇹🇺🇸 Lithuania is deploying US-made AN/TPS-77 MRR mobile radars to strengthen airspace surveillance and threat detection.
Built by @LockheedMartin, the radars will provide real-time data to NATO’s integrated air and missile defence system, enhancing Allied security.
Security boundary between Ukraine and NATO's eastern flank is getting harder to define. Russian drone strikes are aimed at cutting off grain corridor that runs through economic zones of Romania and Bulgaria. Defending Ukraine effectively means defending NATO's eastern flank. theguardian.com/business/202…

Hybrid warfare, textbook case: a masked “Black Rus” spokesman claims the Latvia border raid as a “stress test” and threatens similar actions along other sections of NATO’s border. Whether Minsk's silence is ordered from Moscow or a sign of lost control, the effect is the same: deniable actors, no formal Russian role, and uncertainty over where NATO's response threshold lies.

Poland is also expanding units, drone capabilities, and aviation infrastructure across the region.
Belarus's "opening to the West" is becoming more nuanced. Minsk is seeking U.S. economic and diplomatic engagement while remaining deeply embedded in Russia's military system. The real question is not whether Belarus will "pivot", but how much autonomy it can extract from Moscow.

Nordic-Baltic Eight #NB8 is emerging as a model for the Europeanisation of #NATO through deeper political coordination, military cooperation and support for Ukraine. Defence-industrial cooperation and joint procurement are increasingly reinforcing this integration, turning regional cooperation into greater military interoperability and European defence capacity.

🇸🇪🇵🇱 Sweden to deploy Gripen fighters in Poland
Sweden announced that starting in October 2026, the Swedish Air Force will deploy JAS 39 Gripen aircraft to take part in NATO’s integrated air and missile defense.
According to Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson, the deployment is meant to deter threats on NATO’s eastern flank and protect critical military and civilian logistics hubs in southeastern Poland that route aid to Ukraine.
This is Sweden’s second time sending fighter jets to Poland for airspace surveillance. The first forward deployment was in March 2025, after Sweden formally joined NATO in 2024.
