🇪🇬🇬🇷🇱🇾🇹🇷 Libya’s House of Representatives voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the 2019 maritime boundary agreement with Turkey, reversing its longstanding opposition to the deal.

The vote came exactly two weeks after lawmakers replaced longtime Speaker Aguila Saleh with Al-Salhin Abdulnabi al-Obeidi on October 6. The agreement had remained unratified throughout Saleh’s tenure. A longtime opponent of the deal, Saleh maintained close ties with Egypt and Greece, both of which reject the agreement over its implications for maritime rights in the eastern Mediterranean.
