🗣️At the #GIEConference2026, @ENTSOG, Piotr Kuś, joined the discussion on the EU Grids Package and the TEN-E Regulation revision.
🤝Alongside Abel Enríquez (ENNOH), Tom Howes (European Commission), Rodrigo Freitas Barbosa (ENTSO-E) and Gideon Saunders (GIE), Piotr shared the gas infrastructure’s perspective.
⚙️As the #gas #system undergoes its most significant transformation since its creation, Piotr stressed that infrastructure planning must remain anchored in operational expertise and participation from transmission system operators. Reliable #TYNDP scenarios, meaningful stakeholder engagement and close cross-sector #cooperation will be key to supporting the #energytransition.
🔍Turning ambition into reality requires a better understanding of interdependencies and the long-term role of #molecules in Europe's energy mix. This means recognising the flexibility, storage and back-up value provided by #naturalgas. The absence of the Smart Gas Grid category in the proposed TEN-E revision excludes the possibility for cross-border #biomethane PCI/PMI projects.
Advancing #gas and #hydrogen #repurposing as a practical pathway can support the transition and maximise the value of existing gas assets. Decommissioning should come last, once repurposing has been assessed.
👷♂️The panel also explored the practical realities of project implementation. With the three sectors roles changing, effective coordination and planning frameworks must reflect increasingly #interconnected #energy #networks.
⚡💧🔥One key take away rose from the panel: using expert knowledge and experience of operators will ground the projects’ development processes in reality.
🎤Security of gas supply took centre stage at the #GIEConference2026, where @ENTSOG, Pierre Duvieusart, joined a panel of energy sector representatives to exchange views on Europe's energy preparedness.
💬The discussion, moderated by Anna Slavkovska (@GasStorageCZ), also featured Maciej Ciszewski (@EuropeanCommission), Charlotte Roule (@STORENGY), François-Régis Mouton de Lostalot (@IOGPEurope) and Isabelle CHAPUT (@IFIECEurope).
❄️Pierre presented the findings of ENTSOG's Winter Supply Outlook, highlighting that as Europe enters another winter season, #resilient #infrastructure, #gas #storage and #LNG remain essential pillars of system flexibility and security of supply. As Pierre put it, we should be vigilant, not worried.
Indeed, while #Europe's #gas #infrastructure continues to demonstrate its resilience, storage inventories are entering the winter at lower levels than in recent years. Continued injections, and strong LNG deliveries are particularly important.
🧩Looking beyond the coming winter, Pierre underlined that maintaining Europe's energy resilience requires a broader, system-wide perspective. As #gas and #electricity infrastructures become increasingly interconnected, #securityofsupply can no longer be considered in isolation. Supporting the growth of homegrown #molecules, like #biomethane can also help strengthen energy security.
🔭In this context, Pierre highlighted the value of developing a Mid-Term European Adequacy Assessment for gas. Such an exercise could provide a more coherent view of #securityofsupply across gas and electricity systems, while helping bridge the gap between operational monitoring and long-term network planning.
🔐 The discussion also addressed the growing importance of #physical and #cybersecurity risks, underlining the need for close cooperation between operators, public authorities and other stakeholders to safeguard critical energy assets.
🌍Speakers, including the EC, recognized the importance of efficient and economical storage use, better integration between gas and electricity systems, and growing #biomethane as a domestic energy source.
🤝Different systems, one shared engagement: strengthening the resilience and security of Europe's #energy #networks.
