Honored to serve such a great society! @TSAPhysicians
To celebrate Women's History Month, the TSA will be highlighting some of our amazing female members and what they are currently working on or some of their most recent achievements. First up is @ERebelloMD, a Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she serves as Executive Director of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine for the Cancer Network. She is also the Cancer Network Clinical Site Director at Rush MD Anderson.
A distinguished leader in her field, Dr. Rebello began her career as a pharmacist prior to attending medical school. She has earned multiple accolades, including the Commitment to Mentoring Award from MD Anderson, and recognition as a Texas Monthly Super Doctor from 2018 to 2024. Her interests in opioid-sparing techniques and perioperative patient safety has led to NIH-funded research advancing anesthetic care for cancer patients.
Beyond her clinical and research responsibilities, Dr. Rebello is deeply involved in shaping the future of anesthesiology through leadership roles in several professional organizations. Nationally, she serves on the Board of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) and chaired the 2024 APSF Stoelting Conference “Transforming Anesthetic Care: A Deep Dive into Medication Errors and Opioid Safety.”
Within the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), she has chaired several committees and currently is the meeting chair for the 2025 ASA Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. She also serves on the United States Pharmacopeia Expert Compounding Committee, US Food and Drug Administration Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee, and was instrumental in having the USP <797) one hour rule removed. Within her state, she served as the Treasurer for the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, past chair of the Section for Women Physicians for the Texas Medical Association, and past chair of the Harris County Medical Society Board of Socioeconomics. She currently serves as President-Elect of the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists.
