We're asking for parity with other NHS staff, not special treatment. The cost of working in London has risen. London Weighting hasn't. London doctors, please vote in the indicative ballot and help us secure fair London Weighting for doctors. forms.cloud.microsoft/e/7tYH…
Doctors’ London Weighting has been frozen since 2005. Enough is enough. Today, BMA London has written to NHS London’s Regional Director calling for employers across the capital to come to the negotiating table. If you work in London, vote in our indicative ballot below 👇🏼

In 2005… 📺 YouTube launched 🎮 Xbox 360 launched 🏆 The Goblet of Fire was in cinemas 😐 It was the last time the London weighting went up for doctors. If you’re a BMA member in London - vote to change that 👇 forms.cloud.microsoft/pages/…

Working overnight tonight? 🕑 The clocks go back at 2am on Sunday 25th October, so you work an extra hour if you're on across 1am to 2am. Unless it's already built into your rota, exception report the extra time and any missed breaks. If the extra hour takes your shift over 13 hours or breaches rest requirements, it is a breach of safe working limits and penalty rates apply if you exception report it. To claim payment, exception report within 28 days of the shift. NHS Employers guidance, section 1.6: nhsemployers.org/publication… ⏰

Your collective action has secured additional posts across 48 training programmes, plus 32 new academic clinical fellow posts. On top of that last year’s Round 1 competition ratios are down significantly. This is progress, and we’ll keep fighting for even more training posts.

***NHS staff should NOT be expected to fund the NHS with pay cuts*** NHS service provision is a national issue, as such, the pressure to fund it should be spread fairly across the population Why should NHS workers accept pay cuts year on year to prop up the NHS?!

good piece, would only add that waits for emergency services (as well as elective) have also declined since spring. It looks like NHS orgs are prioritising financial control (as instructed by the centre), so cutting back on filling shifts/extra sessions. Less hospital beds open.
Nearly 100 days in, what is the Burnham Government’s plan for the NHS? After a fortnight of conference, Kuenssberg, the Lords and a pre-Budget row, it's not clear.... New piece 🧵👇

Basically...what the powers that be are saying is this. 'We can't afford the NHS. And to sustain it, you, staff, need to take a below inflation pay-rise aka a cut.' Now- to improve work productivity, you need a couple of other things- beyond pay. Good working conditions, less discrimination The NHS can't offer any of the above. And wonders why the NHS isn't productive. Workforce planning is an ethereal thing in the UK health care system. So we are where we are.

A real terms paycut doesn't show a workforce you value them, it will do nothing to keep doctors in the country and will not help improve experience of patients in the NHS. Emma Runswick, deputy chair of BMA Council, on the Government's proposed 2.4% pay uplift for doctors.

Holding down staff pay 'to protect the service' is no different from introducing a special NHS tax that's only paid by NHS employees. We do not have a unique responsibility to fund the healthcare system. It falls on everyone, and SHOULD fall fairly.

This is damning. The Tories were unprepared for the pandemic, resulting in a lack of tests and PPE. Care home residents and staff were left unprotected.
BREAKING: Covid inquiry chair, Baroness Heather Hallett, says that action to protect care homes came too late causing it to "spread like wildfire". Live updates: trib.al/rq3oWgR 📺 Sky 501

Patients need doctors, but if doctors are going to stay working in the NHS, then they need to feel valued. A 2.4% uplift, yet another sub-inflationary pay rise, is not the way to tell a workforce you value them.
