RELEASE: This afternoon, thousands of teachers, education workers, families, and supporters will gather at local community landmarks across Ontario in a major province-wide show of support for publicly funded education. Read our joint #OntEdUnited release with @AEFO_ON_CA, @OECTAProv, @osbcucscso, and @osstf etfo.ca/news-publications/me….
These coordinated rallies come at a critical moment. @ETFOpresident said, “The government’s ongoing failure to adequately fund public education is leading to larger class sizes, fewer supports, and growing unmet student needs. At the same time, the increasing push toward privatization threatens the integrity of Ontario’s publicly funded education system. Together with our education union partners, ETFO members are calling for the investments needed to support every student and every educator.” #Onpoli #onted #OntEdUnited

ETFO celebrates Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day!
On this Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day, we celebrate the vital role designated early childhood educators (DECEs) play in supporting and inspiring our youngest learners.
“Each year, we celebrate the remarkable contributions of child care workers and DECEs across Ontario,” says @ETFOpresident. “This province-wide day of recognition is not only an expression of appreciation for the countless ways our DECE members support children and families, but it is also a reminder of their professional expertise and the essential role they play in early learning. Today, as always, we honour their work, raise awareness of the value they bring to Ontario’s child care and Kindergarten programs, and continue advocating for the decent wages and working conditions they deserve.”
Person's Day marks the 1929 ruling recognizing women as "persons" under Canadian law. ETFO continues this legacy by dedicating a percentage of its annual budget to programs that uplift, support, and protect members who identify as women.
Join us in honouring this history by continuing to uplift women's voices in our schools and communities, shaping who comes next. #PersonsDay
During the National Day of Action called by @CanadianLabour to defend the right to strike, the @ETFOpresident explained how the federal Liberals are justifying Bill C-39.
We won’t let it stand!
Take a listen and email your MP from workerstogether.ca/strike. #onpoli #canlab
The @ETFOpresident, all three VPs and provincial staff attended the @CanadianLabour rally to defend the right to strike.
Together with workers across the country we are telling the federal Liberals to stop the anti labour overreach of bill c39.
Bargaining without interference is our right! #canlab

The right to strike is non-negotiable. We all want strong collective agreements, stable labour relations and reliable supply chains. Workers are Team Canada 🇨🇦 But you can’t build stability by weakening workers’ bargaining power. buff.ly/dhfoNnh

NEW: In his first year running Ontario's largest school board, the Ford government's TDSB supervisor logged more than twice as many meetings with the board's $20B real estate arm than he did with parent groups, calendar entries reveal.
The FOI records offer a rare glimpse into the supervisor’s day-to-day work, raising concerns that parents have taken a back seat under provincial supervision. Story: thetrillium.ca/news/educatio…
ETFO’s central strike votes, happening November 9-18, are less than a month away!
To keep members informed about the central vote details and the upcoming town hall meeting, we emailed a collective bargaining (CB) newsletter this afternoon. Please check your inbox to stay informed. #OntEdUnited
Today, and always, ETFO celebrates girls, women, and non-binary students in our school communities. This year's International Day of the Girl theme is Elevating Girls' Voices for Sustainable Development.
We are committed to uplifting all students' voices, especially girls, so their truth can be heard. #DayoftheGirl

It's the World Day for Decent Work.
On this October 7, trade unions are putting young workers at the centre of their demands for decent jobs, living wages, secure employment and respect for workers’ rights.
“Young workers are telling us clearly that the status quo is not delivering the future they deserve. Insecure jobs, low wages and a rising cost of living cannot become the norm for a new generation of workers.” @ituc General Secretary Luc Triangle.
Together as unionists and trade unions, we must organize and build work power to support young workers. #WDDW26 #WDDW
On World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate teachers' extraordinary contributions and reaffirm our responsibility to ensure they have the resources, supports, and conditions necessary to help every learner thrive.
Notes @ETFOpresident David Mastin, “If we want teachers and students to succeed, the Ford government must act. That means reducing class sizes, expanding and strengthening supports for all students, especially those with special education needs, addressing the rise in violence in schools, advancing equity and inclusion, and tackling the recruitment and retention crisis that is leaving classrooms without qualified educators.”
#ETFO is encouraging Ontarians to reflect on the teachers who have shaped their lives and to join the call for meaningful investment in public education. #onted #onpoli

Our keynote this evening @strombo talks about his experiences with school, educators that gave him grace, and coming from a union family. All of which are important factors that allowed him to learn who he was. “It never for a second would have happened without these three teachers that I had, and all the little things, the moments of belief that they did and you do.” #teacherscare #onted
