Great summary from @tecoughlin on our recently published paper around Supporting the Support Staff in soccer
“Supporting the support staff” - nutritional strategies to enhance recovery & wellbeing in football performance staff ⚽️
There is an ever-increasing rise in training / match / travel demands of players 📈
But the support staff often experience significantly extended work hours above player attendance🚨
This new review summarised the literature on potential strategies to support those support staff 🔍
The following 4 factors were identified as nutritional opportunities to enhance recovery and wellbeing 👇
Sleep Strategies 😴
🍗 Tryptophan-rich protein
🍺 Reduce alcohol consumption
☕️ Reduce caffeine consumption
🍒 Antioxidants & Polyphenols
Immune Strategies 🤧
🥯 Carbohydrate intake
⚪️ Zinc lozenges
🐟 Omega-3 intake
🫐 Antioxidants & Polyphenols
Positive Nutritional Habits 🧠
⏰ Regular eating pattern
🍽️ Environmental factors
🥪 Food availability & accessibility
Well-being & Job Effectiveness ✅
🔥 Energy & macronutrient provision
🙋♂️ Personalised nutrition
💧 Hydration
More specific research is required to identify the risks and subsequent needs of support staff in pro sport 🔍
Which this review eloquently highlights & provides initial tools for 🫡

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again! Officials and Referee’s need to explain themselves after the fights! We get punched in the head for 36mins and then get a camera shoved in our face and asked to explain our tactics and thoughts! WHY CAN’T OFFICIALS? #TaylorCatterall
