Some things are worth spending political capital on. I don't know if I'd pick it above all else (or implement it exactly this way)--but it's worth something to decisively reject the idea that once you illegally sneak in you're entitled to stay here unless you commit other crimes.

This is a RIDICULOUS thing to say if you're a rich actress who also does credit card ads. Girl, that's your side hustle!
Tina Fey admits she judges rich people who keep launching side hustles when they already have hundreds of millions of dollars
Tina Fey: “I don’t get excited about money. If I’m safe and I have enough money to live, I have a problem with rich people having a side hustle.”
Amy Poehler: “Yeah, you mean like a podcast or something?”
Tina Fey: “No, that is you’re doing work. I’m saying, if you sold, like… where would my line be for you? Where would I draw the line?”
Amy Poehler: “Yeah, I know what you mean. Like if I had a rosé.”
Tina Fey: “If you already have, like, $200 million and you’re like, ‘Also, I need you to…’”
Amy Poehler: “But Tina, this is where you have to learn from Gen Z. I’m sorry, and we have to.”
Tina Fey: “They don’t care. They don’t judge it. They don’t judge it.”

Dropping 5% seems about right.
Okay, I'll eat crow here. Turns out Peltola and the DSCC were in fact behind recruiting the fake Dan Sullivan. Can't believe they thought this wouldn't get out. This will almost certainly backfire (Peltola's odds dropped 5% today on Polymarket), and it's incredibly underhanded and norm-breaking behavior, despite being within the law.

Patrick Stewart, 'Star Trek' Captain and 'X-Men' Superhero, Dies at 86 hollywoodreporter.com/movies…
Well, if you're one of the few teachers discussing ed policy, this is your life.
If Patrick Stewart had Alzheimers and Lewys Body dementia as reported, I'm deeply relieved for his family and friends that his passing was quick.
I've been a Trekkie since I was 12 years old. But I knew Stewart first either as Claudius in the Derek Jacob Hamlet, which I saw when the PBS aired the BBC Shakespeare series, or as Leondegrance, Guinevere's dad in Excalibur (a movie I did not like but serves as a touchstone as the first time appears of so many actors). Two years after that, I saw I, Claudius. So he was pretty familiar to me when he showed up in STTNG.
I dearly love Star Trek TNG, and Stewart played a huge role in so many of the best episodes.
While most people put The Best of Both Worlds Part I as the best episode, my pick as the starting point of the move of STNG from eh, ok, to brilliant was Yesterday's Enterprise. Stewart was phenomenal playing an alt-Picard on the outs with Ryker, desperately trying to convince the captain of Enterprise C to return to their deaths. While Picard was usually the voice of diplomacy, alt-Picard gives the actor one of his best bad-ass moments, when the Klingon ship demands his surrender. Ryker's dead, Data is calmly reciting the various unrecoverable damages the ship is suffering, and Picard says "That will be the day", vaults casually *up* the bridge to take weapons.
His best episodes are tours de force: Inner Light, Starship Mine, Part 2 of Chain of Command ("There are FOUR Lights!", Darmok, and (in what turns out to be a foreshadowing of his own future) The Best of Both Worlds.
But there are so many, many little moments. Just two. In Q Who, when deLancie first forcibly introduces the Enterprise to the Borg and it's clear they are going to be destroyed, Picard's glorious ask for a deus ex machina:
"If we all die here, now, you will not be able to gloat. You wanted to frighten us. We're frightened. You wanted to show us that we were inadequate. For the moment... I grant that. You wanted me to say, 'I need you'? I *need* you!"
Pre-emptive Strike, the last seconds of the episode where Stewart's face and face alone shows his bitter sense of loss and regret.
First of the TNG cast to leave us. A respected but journeyman actor who became a TV superstar at 50 and thus vaulted into starring roles for the rest of his life, he thoroughly enjoyed the change in fortunes, but never forgot where he came from.
Prosper.
This is going to be one of those exhibit A rebuttal links when various center left folks start arguing that there's no support among the left for open borders.
Someone who is not a citizen is in the country with a removal order, and they are working and raising a family and haven't committed any crimes unrelated to their immigration status. What should we do?
Nothing. We should do nothing.

As I keep re-posting, the left is quickly coming to the conclusion that Open Borders is a necessary requirement for a liberal society.
They don't say it outright. But what they do say is that that legal immigration should be maxed out, illegal immigration tolerated and there should be minimal deportations.

Long ago, we reached the point where people just make up whatever story they want

ALT Somehow we've reached a point in education where: - teaching kids explicitly is controversial - academic rigour is treated as a threat to student wellbeing - memorizing math facts is discouraged or considered unnecessary - practice is dismissed as "drill and killi Low expectations are not kindness, and nothing hurts someone's confidence more than falling further behind every year.
dingdingding. Winner.
And you don't have to wonder. White interest in test only high schools plummets.

Economist Tyler Cowen with a good point about "Who's On First." The supposed names of the players are not realistic names. Abbott could explain that this team has unusual names, but, for no rational reason, he does not. Read the full analysis at Tyler's website, Autism Daily.

Democrats should be on high alert about any *hints* of class snobbery. a) It's a bad thing in itself--a violation of social equality; b) it's electoral poison because it pisses people off; c) it's electoral poison because it reinforces an inherently limited cocoon of support.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Walter Koenig’s passing.
Although we did not know each other well away from the set, we shared the later seasons of the original Star Trek series and the six films that followed.
What I observed, and what so many fans have expressed over the years, was a man who genuinely loved the Star Trek community.
At conventions, Walter was rarely content to remain behind a signing table. He preferred to be among the people who had kept Star Trek alive for so many decades.
That kind of genuine connection is rare, and it will be remembered by everyone who came into contact with him.
My condolences to his family, his friends, and the countless fans whose lives he touched.
I love good subtweets.
