Last week, I voulenteered at a Norwegian prison to teach chess to the inmates. I shared my experience on social media, hoping to inspire others to volunteer at the prison. But I had not expected Grandmaster Jacob Aagaard to contact me and generously donate a huge collection of books to the prison library..!
This act of kindness will give many people access to knowledge, growth, and the deep joy of chess... @GMJacobAagaard , @NewInChess , and @QualityChess : Thank you. Your generosity will have a lasting impact. 🥹
Many believe that acts of service should be done quietly, without seeking attention. I understand that view. But I also believe that sharing these experiences can inspire more people to contribute. We live in a time of increasing individualism and division... perhaps now, more than ever, we need to see and celebrate community, kindness, and giving...?
If sharing can encourage more people to step up, to give, to help, to participate, then maybe posting isn’t about performance.. Maybe it’s about connection?
A huge thank you to Jacob - And if you’re reading this and wondering if you should do something for your community: yes. Someone, somewhere, will be grateful that you did. ❤️ #chesspunks

I sometimes wonder whatever happened to chess player Rachel Reeves? She is on the right on the photo taken while she worked part-time in her student days at Chess & Bridge. Her last official rated game was in 2005.
She could have been a master #chess #RachelReeves

The @EdinburghChess Club has a very nice tradition: They always start off the season with the Club Champion giving a simultaneous display. Here is the current champion, Freddy Waldhausen Gordon (14), taking on 19 players. He won 16 games, drew 2, and lost 1.

No.
Much is lost in the name of modernisation.
Chess has to be more than breathless excitement and frenetic hand movement.
The game is truest to itself when it’s slow, silent, thoughtful, deep and beautiful.
Let’s allow it to stay that way.

Yet more superb organising by @timpeterwall whose Northumbria Masters has produced not one or two norms, but a whopping seven! Great stuff. Many congrats to all the norm makers, not least @EdinburghChess's young Freddie Gordon and @GSharks4NCL's teenage star Rajat Makkar! #chess
Newsflash: 7 title norms scored at the Northumbria Masters (@NorthMasters ): GM norm for 16yo Rajat Makkar, IM norms for Krysztof Raczek, Borna Derakhshani, Freddie Waldhausen Gordon, Edvin Trost, Tanmay Chopra and Makkar. More details to follow @ecfchess
