One thing I’ve learnt as a video editor is that organization helps with flow. Before editing starts, organizing the clips in folders gives you a great deal of flexibility and even helps organize your thinking and creativity. You need to understand that organizing your work makes the whole process even more faster and makes you super productive. It sounds as a simple knowledgeable tip but it makes a whole difference.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝟒 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐜𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐬 Instead of using boring zoom cuts, try these 4 cuts: ▸ The Mask cut: Here, you mask an object crossing the frame from the first shot thereby revealing the second object. Very good for grabbing the viewer’s attention. ▸ The Match cut: Take a specific element of the first shot and then carry it to the second shot. Example: End the first shot on an object say a book and smoothly transition to the second shot showing your hand as you pick the book up. ▸ The L cut: This is when your audio from the first shot continues over to the second shot. Best used in B-rolls to connect your story. ▸ The J cut: This is basically the opposite of the L cut. Here, your audio from the second shot begins over the end of the first shot. It makes your sudden cuts smooth and seamless. Use these and see your edits improve 50x ☃️

✦ ⊳ create a library of reusable assets and templates. ⊳ learn to fix common issues like shaky footage. ⊳ practice editing under tight deadlines. ⊳ keep editing software updated for the latest features. ⊳ collaborate with other creatives for fresh ideas. ⊳ focus on pre-production planning for efficient editing or try to be a part of it when possible. ⊳ edit with music that complements the video’s mood. Try these and observe the difference.

Dear Video Editor, are you doing too much or too less? PRINCIPLES BEHIND VIDEO EDITING II Last time, I gave and explained 4 things you are doing wrong as an Editor but unaware of and gave ways you can correct it quickly. ⁍ But there’s more ☟
MORE OR LESS? : PRINCIPLES BEHIND VIDEO EDITING ⁍ Many times I see beginner video editors make the mistake of putting more for less and less for more when editing. At times, we as video editors may get caught up in our edits and forget the actual aim of edits in a bid to impress ourselves and show off our skill. ⁍ The main aim of editing, adding effects or even motion graphics is to make the viewers watch the videos for a longer period with understanding and to feel the emotion the video is meant to convey. There are principles that guide video edits. Breaking one or more of them leads to a BUSY/ROWDY video. So when making your next video, watch out for these ☟
