Benin culture reference in the Brazilian telenovela titled A Nobreza do Amor.... #ANobrezaDoAmor
- The Oba and his spearmen
- The warriors
- The Queen Idia neck pendant.
A Benin chief procession to the palace and visit to all the pilgrimage sites in Benin city, a ceremony known as Èkpomwen in Benin Kingdom.
Èdó people do not bear Damilola Akanbi, she's yoruba from Iwo.
You lived in Benin and turned the whole conversation between damilola and her husband family into a topic to denigrate èdó women.
Twitter is really a wild place, community note should be added to this....
The rain fell everywhere in Benin but didn't fall inside the palace, were they where actually celebrating the coronation anniversary, except you mean the one that fell in uniben "Night".
Benin Kingdom was one of the first principalities to illegitimize slave trade in the world. It was difficult then to sell a slave out of Benin country, talkless of an Èdó freeborn.
Van Nyendael, Sep 1. 1702_ Frame 1
– An Èdó cannot be a slave to his fellow Èdó brethren
– An Èdó Male cannot be sold as slave
– Male slaves owned by the Èdós "Ibiedo" cannot also be sold into the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
Benin Kingdom at the time of Van Nyendael records was still in it peak and could easily indulge in slave trade, but it would cost them the expansion of the empire. Also there is an age long adage that presented those who sell slaves as HUNGRY & Uncivilized people.
The perfect decision my ancestors took about 500yrs ago made sure little to No Èdó man suffer the burnt of the Trans-Atlantic trade and someone in modern day Nigeria thinks its a flex when the charts shows her people were sold as slaves and thinks those people ethnic group that didn't appear on the chart are at loss...

Presenting the research behind Bronze & Sand at the CHAM Researchers' Forum tomorrow, alongside Imen Boussayoud.
I'll be talking about archival research, critical chronologies, and visual storytelling. 10h–12h.
Queen Esther Erediauwa "Eson N'Erie of Benin Kingdom,c.1979-2016"...
Her royal òkùkú make use of horn form of igɛ̃gɛ̃ rather than the random arch type with important ornaments like Igholoye and the èdó star beads which is prevalent in èdó culture..
If we should properly study òkùkú, you'd understand the hairdo is more than just aesthetics, and there are varieties of òkùkú for different ceremony and rites in Benin Kingdom.

Lovely glamz is a Benin woman, and the Owo people still rely on Benin women to make their Okuku. She rather tag it bridal crown instead of the traditional name Okuku.
#Observing
Wrapping this up!
It’s funny how the pictures of owo bride they bring here on X as Owo hairdo were done by Èdó Òkùkú stylist and they including the Owo maiden give appropriate credit by calling it Òkùkú…
– All the photographs they’ve been parading on Owo, the hairdo were either done by an edo woman or an Òkùkú stylist taught the art in Benin city.
But what’s more funny is referencing us to your iCloud as the academic authority in an archeological conversation.
–— will share more light on Ovien, Ovien’oba and Ibiedo/Ubiedo– Next!!
Benin brass plaque relief depicting Benin chiefs and the aesthetics of the Benin court in the late 19th-century.
The èbùlúkù "skirts" worn by the chiefs, the bandoleer "bullet srap" like chest strap worn by chief Èdógun¹, and the leopard tooth necklace on their neck peak Èdó.
Okao Aiwerioghene a titled Benin woman in one of the female societies inside the palace of the Òbá of Benin Kingdom,c.1991..
In a bid to appropriate Òkùkú they're trying to europeanized igɛ̃gɛ̃ the core part of the òkùkú hairdo..

As part of history documentation, on October 24, 2026, the Sultan of Sokoto organized the Durbar Horse Display to honor the Ọba of Benin on His 10th Coronation Anniversary.
On October 20, 2016, the Sultan of Sokoto organized same event for the Ọba of Benin during His coronation.
In short, based on available records, Benin is the only place in Southern Nigeria where the Sultan of Sokoto has initiated and staged a Durbar for a Monarch, especially doing it twice.
Judging by the actions of the Sultan and the carefully worded messages delivered by the Sultan of Sokoto to the Ọba of Benin, read by the Sultan’s Emissary on October 24, 2026, the gesture affirms to the mutual respect between the two most powerful traditional institutions in Nigeria - The Benin Kingdom and The Sokoto Caliphate.

Did Okuku come from Ife or Benin?
Did Edo glass beads come from Ife?
A Thread with academic sources.

Now that it’s come up let me make a tiny thread on Glass beads excavations in Benin City, just for reference.
Replying to @Jack08974390
this is so unsurprisingly incoherent.

anyway,
you suggested binis never had okuku hairstyle until portuguese.
yet we see the hairstyle in Ife artifacts centuries before portuguese. see frame- &2
Ife bead is hLha glass bead (only god knows what you mean by hrh beads, lmao 🤣) & these glass beads were excavated from benin by connah, as now analyzed by LA-ICP-MS & SEM-EDS.
they (the ife beads) were the beads Bini used prior to portuguese introduction of another type called, corals.
