Excited to announce my upcoming @snsf_ch Ambizione research group at @EPFL_en on bacteria-host interactions, combining systems approaches and microphysiological models.
🚨 We have an open PhD position! More info on projects and how to apply here: elisabettacacace.github.io/B…

🚨🔬Excited to share our new paper now out in @NatureMicrobiol!
Using Tn-seq + live imaging in engineered airway organoids, we explored the fitness tradeoffs P. aeruginosa faces while growing and surviving antibiotic treatment on the mucosal surface.

Exciting news!
@HausmannAnnika will be joining the Mucosal immunology team @ETH in November as a junior group leader to establish a group working in microbiota-epithelial crosstalk.

New review out in @ScienceMagazine from Jacob Wilde and Kevin Foster, that I had the honor to meddle in as the resident immunologist.
What possibilities do hosts have to influence their microbiomes?
May contain pandas...
Enjoy!

I was asked by @NatureSMB to write a commentary on the future of structural biology which I am unsure about. I wrote about collaborative research instead. It is not open access but it can be read via this link rdcu.be/dNOLS

Do you want to run a microbial GWAS but are put off by installing a dozen different bioinformatic tools, are unsure about best practices, and how to transform the list of threshold passing variants into a neat annotated table?
Then we have just the thing for you!

Today in @ScienceMagazine, we report how a bacteria has evolved into a major human pathogen over the last 200 years. Read on, this is going to be an adventurous ride 1/n! science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

Inspiring essay by Roberto Kolter. This should be taught before university: knowing how to ask the right questions, the ones we're interested in, not just those for a 'good' paper. This makes a good researcher, IMO. journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128…
Excited to present my latest work today at #nacarb2024 in Ascona!

New preprint from the lab:
Microbial interactions affect the tempo and mode of antibiotic resistance evolution. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
This started from the serendipitous observation of NX low MIC (1-4 µg/ml) on A. baumannii, critical priority pathogen according to WHO. A breakpoint is available only for E. coli, so let's fix that! We tested NX MICs on > 1,000 isolates from > 30 Gram- species with 3 methods.
This started as one of my periodic forays into clinical micro - great collab between @goetheuni and @EMBL. Many thanks to the Göttig group, especially co-first Manuela Tietgen, @TypasLab, @ESRF_FR and everyone involved.
Check out our new story on nitroxoline! New antibiotics are slow to develop, but have we taken a good look at old ones?
