Content relating to my personal hobbies/interests (WW1, writing, books, movies, family history), is now mostly on my BlueSky account. You can find me there at bsky.app/profile/elizabethjb… I'm in two minds about what to do with my X account. Keeping it for now, but will have to see.

Original poster blocked me. But yes, that story is fake. Apart from anything else, prescription medication is not on public shelves in pharmacies, but stored behind a counter or in backrooms. The idea of a frail 91-year old sneaking back there & stealing it is ridiculous.

Another x user just let me know that the story above is AI generated. It didn't actually happen.

Watching #70up. So far, most of the programme consists of rehashing previous episodes with only brief, one-minute updates on each of the participants. You can really tell that Michael Apted (RIP) did not direct this. Can't help feeling a bit disappointed.

This story is fake. Never happened. Unfortunately, this is the problem with social media these days. Emotive stories about very real problems (such as high healthcare costs) go viral and do more harm than good when it turns out they're untrue.

And interestingly, the user has just blocked me. Guess he doesn't like the truth up him.

They absolutely need to be banned! Once they're released, no one can control what they do. One landed on my friend's shed & promptly set the roof in fire. Not to mention how they've been confused with distress flares & killed cattle by ending up in animal feed. #BanSkyLanterns
You haven't gone fare enough @andyburnham Yes the ban on the disposable bbqs is a positive move but you need to ban Sky Lanterns. These pesky toys are nothing but floating incendiary devices that do untold damage in tinder dry conditions #banskylanterns @ChrisHewis

I may be showing my age, but I remember Kellie Bright best from the T-Bag series and The Upper Hand. Both infinitely preferable to EastEnders.

Love, love, love this city. It's especially nice to see the clock tower of the Balmoral hotel.
The view from our breakfast table. We’re in Edinburgh. Of course it’s raining! Good morning!

I can remember a time when John Cleese was - bizarrely enough - a supporter of the Liberal Democrats. They even offered him a seat in the House of Lords. I am politically homeless - but I have to say that this is a dramatic 180°.
I see I am being ritually insulted for my support of this man The uneducated call me a racist I am not a racist I am a culturalist I believe that some cultures are better than others I prefer cultures to do not advocate stoning, pederasty, wife beating, female genital mutilation, and beheading opponents Call me old-fashioned...

Didn't watch the football, but I am not remotely surprised by the result. Same old story - snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

28 June 1914. Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg, were assassinated in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was the trigger for an international crisis that led to the outbreak of the “Great War”.

Go see it if you can. It's a fabulous show. All three acts are excellent!
Our fearless leaders Take That tell me they have released a few more production seats for the shows in Manchester and London, so if you thought you might miss out on seeing both them and ME, fear not! These last few tickets are available here: gigsandtours.com/search?q=ta…

After seeing (yet again) some truly horrible attitudes on X toward those with Down Syndrome, it's time to repost this. The world could learn a lot from President de Gaulle. I also speak as someone who works with children with DS. They are the most wonderful kids. I adore them.
Sharing this about De Gaulle and his down syndrome daughter after some horrible things being said on here.

I've never particularly cared for Royals in general. But honestly, this obsessive hatred for Meghan is so extreme that people are even filled with fury when she makes scones. It's right up there with the worst war crimes.

Tuesday marked the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar. This year's festival coincided with a total lunar eclipse.

On February 28, 2026, the evening sky will stage a breathtaking planetary parade—a rare alignment of six planets: Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. This cosmic gathering, stretching across the horizon shortly after sunset, offers a fleeting glimpse into the grand architecture of our solar system.Picture this: As twilight deepens, brilliant Venus and Jupiter shine like beacons—the easiest to spot with the naked eye—while Mercury and Saturn join them under clear, dark conditions. Uranus and Neptune, fainter and more elusive, reward those with binoculars or a small telescope, completing the lineup along the ecliptic. It's not a perfect straight line etched in the heavens, but from our vantage point on Earth, these worlds appear to march in quiet harmony, a reminder of the shared orbital dance around the Sun.This isn't a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle in the strictest sense—multi-planet alignments occur periodically—but the convenience of so many visible in one evening view, especially with four naked-eye standouts, makes it genuinely special. NASA and astronomers have flagged it as a highlight of the year, urging skywatchers to step outside in late February. In a world that spins relentlessly forward, these moments invite pause. No tickets required, no schedule to book—just you, a clear view of the western to southern sky, and perhaps a blanket against the chill. Look up as the last light fades, trace the glowing dots, and feel the quiet awe of being part of something vastly larger. The universe doesn't shout its wonders; it simply hangs them there, patient and profound, waiting for anyone willing to notice. On February 28, it offers exactly that: a silent, shimmering invitation to wonder, to feel small in the best possible way, and to remember how extraordinary it is to exist beneath such a sky. Don't let the moment slip by unnoticed—go chase the planets.

Why do Americans call taps 'faucets' - but still say 'tap water'?
Why don’t they pronounce the ‘h’ in herbs. It makes no sense.
