Remember episode 2 when the two assassins broke into his grandfather's house? They were going to use a nerve agent to kill Sid. It is laid out on the table and the camera zooms in on a metal wrench that in the final episode River picks up. Kinda accidental. #slowhorses

People boarding planes with their backpacks on, then turning to chat to the person behind them in the aisle, thus smacking a seated passenger in the face with said backpack, should be taken off the plane and shot. No second chances.

The second instalment of Earl Spencer's book is out, and the claim has grown. Yesterday, the then Prince of Wales was supposed to have said Diana would be forgotten soon enough. This week he sounded "giddily elated, like a lottery winner" on the telephone the night she died. The book also says unnamed people at Buckingham Palace were pleased she was dead. The Palace has not answered this one. It may not need to. Its reply to the first instalment, that grief can cloud reason and colour memory even decades on, reads less like a rebuke now and more like a forecast. As I said yesterday, nobody has to pretend Charles was a good husband to Diana. He wasn't, and he said so on television in 1994. Judge the night instead, because the night is documented. He was at Balmoral when the call came from Paris in the small hours. He was told she was dead before dawn. He walked out alone onto the moor. He let his sons sleep, then went into their rooms and told them himself. He telephoned her family. He decided, reportedly over the objections of courtiers, to fly to Paris with her sisters and bring her home, and to have her coffin draped in the Royal Standard she was no longer entitled to. Accounts from those who were at Balmoral that night describe a man in shock and in tears. None of them describes a lottery winner. Now look at the evidence for the claim. A voice on a telephone line to Cape Town, in the middle of the night, from a man who had not slept, heard by a man who had just been woken with the worst news of his life, and written down twenty-nine years later. Spencer's own passage says the call sounded strangely matter-of-fact before it says giddily elated. Those are not the same thing. Anyone who has taken a call like that knows what shock does to a voice. It goes flat. It goes practical. It talks about arrangements, because arrangements are the only thing left to hold on to. That is what matter-of-fact sounds like. Elated is the word you reach for later, when you want the reader to feel something. And this is a memory that has been growing. In 1997, in the Abbey, with Charles sitting a few feet away and the whole world listening, the Earl said nothing of the kind. In 2017, on the twentieth anniversary, he told the BBC he had been lied to about whether the boys wanted to walk, and called the decision bizarre and cruel. Strong words, and still no lottery winner. In 2026 there is a book to sell, and now there is one. The same instalment publishes his sister's most private moments of despair, which she cannot consent to, and passes on thirty-year-old gossip about the King's private life, attributed to her, which she cannot confirm. Courtiers who are not named are said to have been pleased she died, so nobody can answer. That is not a brother defending his sister. It is a brother using her. The witness, briefly. In 1993 he offered his sister a home on the family estate and withdrew it. In 1995 he introduced Martin Bashir to her after being shown forged documents; to his credit he later helped expose the fraud, but it was still his introduction. He pledged in the Abbey that her blood family would steer her sons, and was in a Cape Town divorce court three months later with his infidelities aired in public. Three marriages, three divorces, seven children by three women, and a new partner public within weeks of the last marriage ending in 2024. One fact in this chapter is not in dispute: the King rang him. In the hours after losing the mother of his children, Charles picked up the telephone to her brother on another continent, because that is what you do. Twenty-nine years later, that courtesy has become a lottery win. Memory is not evidence. Deeds are. The King's are on the record. So, now, are the Earl's. Thank you Audrey for the video. teapawt.net/audrey_fforbes/status/…

Ed Sheeran is a successful song writer and performer. He avoids politics in his performance. Good for him. It was only a matter of time that the media would pounce to knock him down. All the artists clamouring for attention should know they will get the same treatment one day.

The Old Smithy in Welcombe is a joy of a pub and don’t miss the chance to see Welcombe Mouth beach. The Farmers Arms is WoolfardisWorthy, is good stop on route to see Clovelly, a must, and I love Sunshine & Snow and La Petite Monde both in Bideford. The whole area is bliss.

Milei and Argentina can yap all they want about the Falklands - the only way they'll take them is with a military campaign which they'll lose again. Emphatically. Everything else is noise. They have six duff F16s that used to belong to the Danes, no subs, no aircraft carriers, no frigates, and three rusty destroyers from the 1980s. Unemployment is rocketing under Milei, inflation is still at 30% and they haven't got a pot to piss in. All the Argies can talk about re the UK is Islam and immigration. Fine. Britain is struggling right now, sure, but Argentina is a joke. Most importantly, don't underestimate a people who are at the end of their tether.

I’m happy to explain it: Autogynephilia is a fetish in which a man becomes sexually aroused at the idea of himself as a woman. The outbreak of “trans identities” amongst fully grown adult males over the past decade or so can, for the vast majority, be connected to the condition of autogynephilia, while they claim to have a “gender identity” of “woman”. Gender identity has been put into law in many jurisdictions, and in many instances gender identity is overriding sex - which is the immutable characteristic connected to sex based rights. Sex based rights are what women & girls rely on for many spaces, services & sport. With gender identity in law, it means that an autogynephilic man can use the law to have *more* rights than an actual woman: a man who is aroused at the idea of himself as a woman can use the law to go into a woman’s change room & her objection to that is irrelevant. A sexual fetish has more rights than a woman or girl. Again, in the vast majority of instances, women’s mere objections to autogynephilic men - that they are actual women or that they should be legally permitted in female spaces - is framed as hatred or bullying. The simple word of “no” is used against women, in favor of the men who are aroused by the idea that they are women. Many women’s lives, and livelihoods, have been or have attempted to be destroyed for simply saying “no” to men who are aroused by the idea they are women. This level of gaslighting is bound to make even the most level headed woman, at the very least, angry. Women are allowed to be angry.

How can anyone be 'a little bit autistic'? It is a spectrum from missing social signals to a debilitating condition. Why do so many famous people use it to excuse their behaviour? Nothing to do with the mind-destroying drugs they consumed in great quantity, I guess.

The Truth About Being Left-Handed! #LeftHandersDay #August13 #OnThisDay Today is August 13, International Left-Handers Day! Did you know that only about 10% of the entire human population is left-handed? For centuries, being left-handed was actually considered a curse. In fact, the word "sinister" originally comes from the Latin word for "left"! In the past, children were literally forced and punished in school to use their right hands. Even today, lefties have to survive in a world entirely designed for right-handed people—from scissors and spiral notebooks to swiping credit cards! But here is the massive advantage: left-handers are heavily overrepresented in genius-level fields, including mathematics, architecture, and professional sports! Because their brains are wired to handle spatial awareness and multitasking differently, some of history's greatest minds were lefties, including Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, and Marie Curie!

Let’s enumerate: • she was married to & cohabited with the thief • she received & used stolen goods • the goods included highly ostentatious items, cars & a campervan • she was head of the party whose money was embezzled • she signed (& thereby took responsibility for) accounts • she shut down awkward questions about them, imperiously & with veiled threats • 3 members of the NEC resigned over lack of access to financial records • the party’s accountants resigned & had to be replaced • the police saw fit to arrest & detain her • she refused to answer police questions • she has subsequently lied about what she knew & what she saw • she claims, despite knowing better, to have been ‘exonerated’ I understand why, despite all this, she has not been charged. Proving dishonest knowledge or belief the goods were stolen would not be easy in this case. She has NOT been cleared.
