Let's look at Reality. Firstly, please remember that it is both time- and space-bound. That river you see was a small stream long ago and may vanish hereafter. The boiling temperature of water depends on how far you are above sea level. Easy enough start, right?

Almost 1,200 migrants have arrived illegally by small boat in the past three days. Despite all the promises over many years by government ministers (of all political stripes) to fix the problem, it shows no sign of abating. Make no mistake, this is state failure on a seismic scale. The longer it goes on, the greater the implications for the integrity of our democracy and the cohesion of our society.

Since riots are now spreading across Europe, there are some simple things any country that wants to avoid them can announce. Anyone found guilty of rioting/looting: - who is a foreign national will be immediately deported - who is a dual national will be immediately stripped of their citizenship, then deported - who is an asylum seeker or has been granted asylum, will be denied asylum/deported - permanently banned from receiving any benefits/welfare of any kind - given harsh custodial sentences Announce this now and avoid riots or watch your country go down the route of France and Germany.

Another boost for the staying out side.
NEW Rachel Reeves tonight declares Britain should return to the European Union The former chancellor says Brexit made the UK “poorer, weaker and less secure” She will make her case in a lecture at the Harvard Kennedy School on Monday Reeves helped draft the Labour 2024 manifesto which said no EU return She’s one of the most prominent Lab figures to back rejoin since Burnham became PM The tectonic plates within Labour are shifting. Will more follow her? Reeves writes in The Sunday Times: “I am proud of the progress we have already made in strengthening our relationship with the European Union. Brexit has made us poorer, weaker and less secure. “There is a debate to be had about our future relationship with Europe, and I welcome Andy Burnham’s leadership in facing up to this. No one in the Treasury ever doubted where my instincts were. “I do believe Britain’s future lies in the European Union. “However, it is incumbent on supporters of our re-entry to make the argument, demonstrate tangible benefits and to get the next steps right — especially ahead of the UK-EU summit later this month, where at a minimum we should be looking for confirmation of the ambitious youth mobility scheme negotiated earlier this year, and — I hope — progress towards entry into the SAFE defence partnership.” thetimes.com/article/06d9b6a…

Educate yourself Kay. Your lefty virtue-signalling about how bad our country’s history was may have been welcome on Sky News and at your Covid parties. But the truth is that slavery- indefensible as it was- was the norm many centuries ago. The Romans, the Egyptians, the Dutch and even the Africans themselves all took part in the brutal trade. And you should know that Brits were enslaved too. By the Romans, Irish, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and the Barbary cosairs. Your ignorance wouldn’t be much comfort for the women imprisoned for months in freezing, brutal conditions, taken from their families by raiders on the British Isles in the 11th century. If you need some help learning more, read my book, ‘Patriot: Empire, betrayal and hope’.
I’m sure your words would have been of great comfort to the women imprisoned for months in those stinking, cramped dungeons, taken out at the governor’s pleasure or left in the blistering sun without food or water if they resisted his advances, before being marched through the Door of No Return. That Labour ministers think that employers are not working people, when they often work tirelessly at all hours to try to make their businesses work, tells you all you need to know about how well they understand what it is to grow the economy.

Britain is not dysfunctional for lack of modernization. Britain is in the mess it is in because of ill-conceived modernization.

Since the slavery debate is back in the news, all the facts you need are 👇 Only a country led by self-hating, miseducated, virtue-signalling morons would be having this conversation the way Britain is.
Understanding history means confronting uncomfortable truths, not rewriting them.

Banknotes lose Churchill and Austen; official reports set out to "decolonize" the countryside. The country of Shakespeare, Newton and Brunel allowed no claim to exceptionalism, other than exceptional wickedness.

And now the Home Secretary is going to effectively fast track the recipients of these patently fraudulent visas into ILR status - giving them the ability to claim all the benefits under the sun. Extraordinarily reckless.
Here's an astonishing stat: Just over half of all visas granted to care workers in 2023 were sponsored by employers that have since lost their licences, mostly due to fraud or abuse. That’s ~200,000 people once you include dependants. None of them have had their visas revoked.

Under UK law, employers must now take all reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. I think telling men that dressing up like a plastic sex doll is unprofessional and likely to be experienced as unwanted conduct of a sexual nature that creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or offensive environment for female colleagues and students is a reasonable step.
🚨 NEW: “His presentation made me uncomfortable, but I quickly understood that saying so would not be acceptable. Colleagues applauded and celebrated him. You couldn’t simply ask: what on earth is he doing?” A former Oxford postgraduate student writes for [Un]Captured about her experience of lecturer Matt Rattley - and why she feared speaking openly would damage her career. She wasn’t taught by him, but saw him around the college regularly. She explains why the culture surrounding him affected her too. Published anonymously, in her own words. Link to read below 👇

I see Germany is now having problems with Far Left rioters. Seems to be a problem across much of the EU, right now. The same EU so many British politicians seem eager to rejoin. One could be forgiven for wondering what world they are living in.

The Zong incident is a stain on Britain’s history that can never be erased. It shows how slavery is the gateway to the most vile human behaviour. We should never seek to cover up this sort of thing. But Zong also played its part in motivating the anti-slave trade movement, which eventually triumphed. Thanks to Britain. The barbarity of Zong doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take pride in Britain’s unique role in abolishing the slave trade and then slavery — and the immense and costly (in treasure and lives) steps we took to enforce these bans. In this our history is sui generis — proudly so.
Replying to @afneil
Just so we have the full picture…How much compensation was paid to freed slaves? How did the apprenticeship system work ? And what was the impact of the use of indentured labour by plantation owners? Oh and I forgot the Zong incident….
