A powerful remembrance from Jason, who gives us a personal glimpse of his family. Yes, Rosalynn Carter was an international figure. But she’s also a grandmother who tucked $20 bills into birthday gifts, doted over her grandkids. She “doesn’t need a eulogy; her life was a sermon.”

"Secretary Clinton and Dr. Biden, we also welcome your lovely husbands" -- @SenatorCarter with a bit of humor on a sad day, memorializing his grandmother.

In June 1993, Connecticut became one of the first states to enact an assault weapons ban. On the 30th anniversary of this law, we commend those lawmakers for their courageousness to lead the way on gun safety. These laws work, and it is our responsibility today to maintain them. – at Connecticut, USA

On this day in 1925, high school teacher John Scopes was arrested for teaching evolution in Dayton. He violated Tennessee's Butler Act, which forbade lessons contrary to the Bible's "story of the Divine Creation of man." Punishing those who teach scientific truth is nothing new.

If your Congressman or Senator tells you next week that we are helpless in the face of this carnage, and our gun laws are just fine as is, then decide to do one small thing, each week, to help elect his or her opponent. Democracy is designed to fix a problem like this.

"Specifically, for a lot of us, it doesn't always feel like you're banning the book itself. Sometimes it feels like you're banning the people that those books are about, that you're saying that those lives are lives that should only exist in the shadows."-Jason Reynolds #bookbans

Anyone think this is ok? The trauma our country needlessly forces on kids is so damaging and preventable.
What could be more American than kids playing baseball? Oh yeah, that...
