"Equity is a lens and an ideological commitment. No strategy can help us cultivate equitable schools if we’re unwilling to understand how racism operates." —@pgorski via edchange.org/publications/Av…

"Legal mandates paved the way for children to be physically present in the same schools, but special education identification practices became the way to ensure that they were not in the same classrooms."

This is a really great thread on ways that school can be ableist.
This one always bothered me even when I was in elementary school. If you get a cold you don't get a gold star? So unfair!
Is anything more satisfying than typing your paper in single space and then making it double space at the end? It's like a makeover reveal.
So excited for this talk on Culturally Responsive Teaching on December 2!
How important is culturally responsive teaching to you? Join Cougars for Educational Equity for a twitter talk on CRP and how it can positively impact the lives of students in the classroom! See you soon! @UHCOE #socialjustice #diversitymatters #socialdialogue #twittertalk
One of my final projects for the semester is writing a paper based on interviews with three educators at different levels about how curriculum is developed, implemented, and evaluated. And it's so challenging!
“It surprises me how many people are fixated on the failures of schools when we are truly building the plane while flying it.”

That very specific feeling when you finally figure out how to make Tableau make your data look the way you want it to.
From my early childhood textbook:
“Many individuals who remember particularly painful family experiences when they were children identify teachers as those who were helpful in their being able to survive and transcend horrific situations.”
“Children everywhere should be ensured of the fundamental rights to grow up feeling safe; to be protected from social toxicity, abuse, war, and political violence; and to be freed from the morally destabilizing effects of poverty.”
So get out there tomorrow and #vote.
I love Sunday nights because I get to go to bed with everything crossed off my school to-do list. Which then immediately regenerates when I wake up on Monday morning. 🙃
Love this quarantine book-signing event from @toddparr. His channel is full of so many lovely storytelling videos.

A4. Yes! I think every workplace needs a social media policy for all stakeholders. There are too many stories in the news about people getting fired or suspended for tweets. If boundaries are clearly defined, I don't think that would happen as often. #CUIN6320
#CUIN6320 QUESTION 4: Do you think schools need a social media policy for students/staff? Does your school/workplace have one?
I'll also add that I've never worked anywhere with a social media policy—and I used to blog for a wedding website, which seems like it would be the most likely place to have one in place! #CUIN6320
A3. As a parent, I think there can be privacy issues if you're sharing images of students, especially if you work with younger children who don't necessarily understand the impact of social media. #CUIN6320
#CUIN6320 QUESTION 3: What are some drawbacks of using social media in a professional environment?
