#otd in 1884 Richard Parker, a 17-year-old cabin boy was killed so the remaining crew of the shipwrecked Mignonette could survive on his blood and body. The crew had been at sea in an open boat for 20 days with only two tins of dry turnips, one turtle, and no fresh water.

My summer in Southampton included: walking the Jane Austen trail, a flying visit to Tudor House and Gardens, touring the Titanic exhibition at SeaCity, hiking through the Royal Country Park to see the famous Victorian Hospital that Arthur Conan Doyle's Dr Watson attended!

A sneak peek at a few of the Victorian (individually hand blown between 1840-1910ish) ‘penny’ ink bottle highlights for this evening’s batch of posy kits: The Blues: cobalt was used in the glass recipe to make these. I’ve lifted the deepest slightly so you can see that intense midnight colour. The Specials: a rare periwinkle Lyon’s ink that like a slightly wonky fancy Victorian jelly, a miniscule rat poison bottle (👀grim yet beautiful), two adorable little barrel inks, a delicious Derby pyramid & a tiny J Field ink sample bottle. Some of the bottles for this evening’s batch are around 180 years old…
