Using books from the library to allow students to explore how to create an effective story opening - one that creates intrigue and leaves questions unanswered. Had the intended effect of making students want to read the rest of the books! @Team_English1 @LitdriveUK #teamenglish

This was such an enjoyable approach to teaching poetry - the students produced some of their best work and we had fun in the process! @Team_English1 #teamenglish #edutwitter @HartlandIntl
To get students more engaged with poetry, I created an imaginary 'classroom cafe' - and 'invited' famous poets in to discuss the inspiration behind their work, writes @Emmanaomi tes.com/news/teaching-poetry…

Thanks to @IntlTes for sharing my thoughts on questioning - sometimes it can feel so difficult to get those lively debates in class whilst social distancing and wearing masks! #edutwitter
If you want to encourage your quiet students to join in with class discussions, @emmanaomi has four teacher tips for you tes.com/news/teachers-school…
Creating revision resources inspired by @MrWilksTeaches (who in turn was inspired by @KateJones_teach!) I'm hoping the bright colours might make revision more exciting... #teamenglish #edutwitter @Team_English1

The liveliest debate I've had in class in a long time! Used this as an introduction to 'Danger of a Single Story' and discussed ideas linking to representation in films and how Hollywood has influenced our views of different cultures #TeamEnglish #edutwitter @Team_English1

Replying to @teacherhead
@Teacherhead recommends asking, "for the positive features of an exemplar and ways it can be improved," as then, students, "can often make much better sense of the elements that contribute to the idea of success." The results with creative writing were impressive! @Team_English1

These examples were using the short film 'The Virus' on YouTube as a writing stimulus. Students critiqued different examples of the skills we were studying along the way and applied it to their own work. #teamenglish #edutwitter
Love this article from @NiallStatham! It’s been quite the journey but I think we’re perfecting the approach to podcasting...the Scottish accent and the Yorkshire accent sound fabulous together 😂 #edutwitter #podcast #cpd
