In the early 70's inverted porn star Marilyn Chambers was featured on a box of Ivory Snow laundry detergent, posing as a wholesome mother with an infant.
It was promoted with the slogan ''99 & 44/100% pure".
Shortly after in 1972 Marilyns hit porn film 'Behind the Green Door' was released.
Filmmakers and Chambers struck porno gold by marketing the flick as "99 and 44/100% impure".
Naturally, Ivory Snow manufacturer Proctor and Gamble feigned innocence and embarrassment about this contrived scandal and pulled product with Marilyns image off store shelves... but don't believe for an invert minute this was just an ''oopsie''.
The publicity was enormous, free, and very profitable.
Chambers became famous as a symbol of the sexual revolution while earning millions off the scandal, cashing in on his invert privilege.
Behind the Green Door became one of the most commercially successful adult films of all time.
And Ivory Snow sales soared with the detergent brand still being sold today... more than 50 years later.
