The whole ‘please go back to the traditional Zelda formula’ discussion is funny to watch as someone who remembers the early 2010s where people were on their hands and knees begging Nintendo to do anything but traditional Zelda
Calling Paper Mario The Origami King an RPG is a crime that should be punishable by banishment, lol.
Backwards compatibility isn’t a subscription based thing, lol

Thinking like this and not wanting a series to be focused on what makes it unique, is the most enjoyed, and frequently begged thing for the creators to just make the sole focus and done well is the reason the series has had some much damage but y’all aren’t ready for that convo

Treasure hunting and Mech level fill a niche in Sonic gameplay engagement and that's where a lot of the fun comes from

Thankee @NintendoAmerica for letting me sign an NDA
Commonly the return on investment for the cost of the production cost or the card being slower isn’t worth it.
Actual sales numbers and the like for the series don’t warrant the effort if it’s even possible.
Why lose money for a vocal minority online?

It really does bother me a lot, I wish they would just give us the option to pay more to have what we want in return.
Because people used to put more effort after watching a tie in media piece to then go play the source material.
They watch an adaption now and claim to be hardcore fans and experts or become annoying larpers, and make fanbases more annoying.

I mean...yeah?
Why would that be a problem?
Obviously, it would be better for them to play the games but...I'm not here to judge anyone else's own relationship with a franchise.
If they only want to watch the anime, then so be it.
The anime exists in order to reach non-gamers like them anyway.

Just because it’s different doesn’t mean you have to like it though.
Execution of the gameplay also matters, and BBS has a ton of issues people don’t like.

"It doesn't play like the mainline games" That's the point, it's a side game doing a different style of gameplay! And the command deck system isn't even that hard to understand!

I was fantasizing about Nintendo hiring me to write the script for a Waluigi RPG. I kept imagining scenarios and dialogue and making myself laugh because it was so stupid. Waluigi is great 😆
The problem with “imagine if Zelda was on PS5” or any other system is the games quality standard and uniqueness is for the sake of selling the Switch.
The second it’s available on everything, no reason to try and make a game unique. You want uniqueness in favor of convenience.
The counter argument and thing to look out for is don’t chase this mindset so much that you aren’t ever satisfied with any work you do, any relationships in your life, or anything.
Too much of anything is bad for you. You’re allowed to not be a “perfect person” you know?
The day people one day learn every game is made under different conditions, visions, people, different engines, different tech, and so much more and no 2 games are truly made equal technically and stop acting like this will be a beautiful day that will sadly never come 😭
That’s not the problem.
It’s the issue of he said it was during RE2 but the times used, it’s snowing, and many things contradict “it’s during RE2” he claimed it was people have an issue with.
Can you people see no nuance? You think every RE fan is the same and thats toxic man
I so much love this take because it completely exposes the double standard towards the new Resident Evil reboot.
If you refuse to consider the 2026 film a real entry just because it ditches the OG heroes for a bumbling everyday courier, then by that exact logic, you have to throw out Resident Evil 7 too.
The gaming community universally praises RE7 as a masterpiece, completely forgetting that it took the exact same massive gamble by introducing Ethan Winters, a totally normal guy with zero combat training, no ties to Umbrella, and enemies that weren't standard zombies. Shifting the camera to an ordinary civilian isn’t an insult to the lore; it is literally the exact narrative blueprint that successfully saved the video games a decade ago and did the exact same for the movie franchise.
Saw Resident Evil a bit ago.
I really enjoyed myself, thought the guy captured the spirit of playing RE well.
I just wish it had been a bit more accurate to the outbreak he originally claimed it took place in to tie some confusing parts together, but, that’s just me.
The thing is he could have done…both though.
All he needed was to include a few enemies and locations in the background and T virus behavior changes to indicate properly:
“This is on the other side of the Raccoon City” like he claimed early on.
Otherwise good time.
Not adapting a specific game and dropping the legacy characters might actually be the best thing that happened to this franchise.
Every previous Resident Evil movie tried to cram in characters, mythology and fan-service, and most of them ended up being a mess. Cregger was way more interested in making you feel what it’s actually like to play Resident Evil, being confused, underprepared, scared and constantly wondering what the hell is around the next corner.
and that’s why I think cregger's story works so well. he's not trying to explain every piece of Umbrella lore or spend half the movie explaining the T-virus. It’s literally just one guy trying to survive and get somewhere while monsters keep making his life hell. Maybe Resident Evil never needed to be a perfect adaptation of the games. Maybe it just needed to make you feel like you’re playing one.
