Meet @EndItForGoodMS's @ChristinaBDent, the conservative Christian fighting to end the drug war because it makes it harder for addicts to find and get help. Great @reason Interview w @billybinion youtu.be/AI9R8rwINUY?si=lWbF…

I was homeschooled so I missed out on the DARE program, but my friend Robert Legge made a profound observation: Why do we have police officers teaching children about drugs when it's healthcare professionals who are trained in this field?

Criminalizing addiction is not us versus them. It's us versus us, and we all lose.

Really excited about this report we just released at @EndItForGoodMS showing how the drug war in Mississippi has failed to deliver on its objectives, and has diverted resources away from solving thousands of violent crimes that remain unsolved. enditforgood.com/misplaced

This is something I never gave much thought to, but it’s true. Most people aren’t addicted. Treating them like they are helps no one.
I'll reiterate : 🗣️ We need to dismantle systems that treat everyone who uses drugs like they have an addiction. #EndStigma

🧵 We often ask, “How can we punish X or Y behavior?” Instead, should we ask, “Why is X or Y behavior happening?” Why do many people use drugs alone? Maybe they’re avoiding stigma and arrest. Why do so many people die from overdose? Maybe they’re using a contaminated supply.

This is one of the biggest hindrances to ending drug prohibition. The people most directly impacted by the horrific results are generally the ones without the influence to change it. Those of us with influence need to expand our moral imaginations outside our own experiences.
Our deeply entrenched egocentricity is a major hindrance to our pursuit of justice. We are not naturally moved by the evil, sin, and suffering of this world to do justice until it infringes on our world, our comfort, and our relationships.

I supported drug prohibition for most of my life out of good intentions. I wanted to protect people from harm. But intent doesn't equal outcome. The outcomes of prohibition are destroying millions of lives. My values didn’t change, my perspective on how to live them out did.

Day 3 of #StartHere, considering regulation of drugs. It’s hard to rethink deeply held positions. Even harder if our careers would be impacted. And for some the issue of drugs is personally painful. But there’s a lot to gain if we’ll consider ending the drug war. #EndItForGood
