When using hashtags, if you capitalize every new word Blind twitter users can actually hear the message you're saying.
So, instead of #blacklivesmatter (which still rocks but is a mm less accessible)
But #BlackLivesMatter allows the message to be accessible!
Even on instagram!

White educators: "I love my students" is no substitute for racial justice, and if we don't educate about and act for racial justice--not just racial "diversity," but racial JUSTICE--we don't, in point of fact, love our students.

Please read happy Black books too. We don't just write about slavery and colonialism. Consume Black history and art about anything. It all helps to decenter whiteness

On this day, five years ago, I typed up my letter of resignation because I was feeling defeated and didnāt believe the work I was doing mattered. I prayed on my decision and later that night this post featured on Humans of NY went viral. Nothing beats prayers.

Just saw Just Mercy. Sheesh. Jamie Foxx is really something. Also, protect Bryan Stevenson at all cost.

You CAN be the fun teacher, or the nice teacher, or the teacher that all the kids like, and still have high expectations of them to follow the rules. It IS possible. ā at Chicago, IL

āItās hard for me to say that. How about I give you a nickname?ā
No.
Ask your students how to pronounce their name correctly, practice it as much as you need to, then say it correctly. ā at Chicago, IL

I donāt know who needs to hear this, but...when you leave in the middle of BIPOCās keynote to stand in line to get your book signed, I wonder what you value more - his words or your possession of them?
