For centuries, paleontologists have had to rely on intuition re whether reconstructed joint poses "look right." Today in @NatureComms: we created a way to formalize & test that intuition, & discovered that articular surface interactions distinguish locomotor poses in dinosaurs 🧵

So this may be the best thing at homecoming this year. My dog Pip in a custom made @QueensEngineer jacket! @queensu @queensualumni #queensu #QueensHomecoming #Hoco
(1/5) Excited to share our new insights into primate shoulder range-of-motion (ROM), now available #OpenAccess in #ProcB! @nate_m_young @RainbowBiomech
We introduce an in silico model to explore the relationship among morphology, ROM, and behaviour

(4/5) An interesting revelation: traits promoting high shoulder mobility aren't always the same as those enabling overhead positions. Non-human apes have enhanced overhead capability without high mobility 🦍, but humans have high mobility with less overhead capability 🙋♀️.
Best way to spend the morning before heading to the @ISBiomechanics SPM workshop?
Head to the World Swimming Championships across the street!! Awesome crowd and great qualifying swims from Canada and Japan heading into finals tonight!! 🇨🇦🇯🇵

Why do YOU think the arch recoils?
Our new study in @FrontBioeng uses high-speed x-ray to show that arch recoil is critical to propulsion because it orients the ankle upright.
Arch recoil increases contact time, likely to generate propulsive ankle power more efficiently.

I had a great time today helping out at the Body Machine Interface station at @wustl_pt’s @BiomechanicsDay. Thanks to @MDHarrisLab for organizing a fantastic day and for Jie Fie for leading our station and getting students excited about IMUs and rehab science!!

Check out our new paper on morphable models of the lumbar spine. We used partial least squares regression morph geometry according to pathology, demographics, or anatomical measurements. This is the model for facet angle. 50 days free access:

Love seeing the @QueensMech office in full Halloween spirit today! 👻🎃
Congrats Quinn!! Quite an accomplishment given the strong field of biomedical presenters! :) Great way to end a fun day showcasing some awesome research across @QueensEngineer
Congratulations Quinn Yetman! 1st place for the Biomedical Engineering poster at the Queen's Engineering Research Day. I enjoyed seeing all of the excellent research going on @QueensEngineer today! Congratulations to the conference's organizers including @ErinLeeQU. Great day!

I haven’t tweeted in a while, but over the last 10 days I had the pleasure of travelling to two excellent conferences and the organizers at @ISG_biomech and @NACoBiomechs deserve some recognition for making these meetings truly outstanding! Here are a few highlights: (1/7)
Overall, the @SkelObsLab had a blast and congrats to @AnjaBee6 on delivering an excellent podium presentation. So nice to spend this time together before you head down under (although I am still pretending you aren’t leaving yet 🥺) (6/7)
Now back in Kingston for a restful weekend. I recognize it is a privilege to attend these meetings and I’m grateful to @RainbowBiomech for the opportunity. Following many months behind a screen, this has been a wonderful way to wrap up the summer and year 3 of my PhD. (7/7)
