He was already high on some Henny, had just finished his second blunt of the night, and was vibing to the music in the VIP section when the skinny, light-skinned Shina Peller walked up to him, played him a fresh beat the producer Phantom had just made upstairs, and said, “This one is for you.” They went straight upstairs to the studio inside Quilox. Phantom was waiting. Burna stepped into the booth and recorded “Ye” in under 10 minutes. “Ye” would go on to become one of the biggest songs of Burna Boy’s career and a turning point in his journey to becoming a global superstar. And all of it started because, on one random night at Club Quilox, a club owner played an artiste a beat made upstairs in his club’s studio. This is why I love clubs with recording studios.
