Do you want to go down the coffee rabbit hole?
Do you want to know how far it goes?

The Finer Coffee filter basket is unique in having a curved bottom but a flat interior.
I look a look to see how it performed for taste. It matched performance of the Wafo Spirit for my style of shots and was better for the sour component.

Coffee solubles don’t dissolve instantly, and their rate of dissolution is driven by temperature and time.
I wanted to peak more into how quickly they dissolve which better explains why thermal flow through the puck is so important for espresso.

My espresso routine has slight modifications that add up to major changes over the years.
Someone asked me what is my current routine so I present it here wirhout much discussion on why I do what I do.

Coffee roasting can be done using heat from convection, conduction, or radiation.
I’m trying to use the Roest to separate convection and conduction by modifying fan speed and drum RPM.

I explored heat soaking (50C) roasted coffee beans just after the roast, and I found an improvement in taste.
I’m curious if anyone else has tried doing something similar.
I thought it might make the beans taste baked, but it did not.

Be careful cleaning espresso filters and shower screens with microfiber cloths.
I discovered my Wafo Spirit filter basket was clogged by a combination of microfibers and coffee grounds.

In more experiments with thermal pulsing for coffee roasting, I have been exploring what pulses really mattered.
So I looked at the two pulses that happen during the Maillard reaction, and they both had the biggest impact on taste.

I’ve been trying to make a nice baked coffee to help me calibrate my understanding of taste with respect bad roasts.

I’m really interested in the Maillard reaction during coffee roasting and how different ways to transfer heat affect it.
So I started experimenting with fan speed adjustments only during the Maillard reaction temperature ranges.

I solved students using ChatGPT to write their papers:
Just make the prompts unsafe.
For example, English Literature 101, write a story about babies being stranded on an island and resorting to cannibalism.
I did a side quest investigation on how quickly my Kim Express heats up to be able to brew espresso.

I wrote some symptoms of being a coffeesexual.
I’m still not sure if it would be categorized as a mental disorder, but I will leave that to the medical community.

I compared the Momentem grinder and the SPK 58 grinder out of the convenience of having them at the same time.
The momentum grinder barely beat out the SPK 58, and my suspicion is it’s really the chaff collector.

I varied a few roasts by just a few seconds. I wanted to see how much nuance in taste there was when a roast was dropped a second later or two seconds later.
