THE 10Y CLOSED BELOW 5% — THE SCARE KIND OF RALLY RATE DNA — 2026-10-22 (closing prices) THE TAPE (observed): the nominal 10Y fell 15.2bp to 4.967%. Real yields fell 12.3bp to 2.627% — about 80% of the move. Breakevens fell 2.9bp to 2.341%. 10s30s steepened 3.7bp — the belly led. And risk assets didn't celebrate: BTC −3.9%, ETH −4.3%, VIX 16.68 → 19.28. THE READ (interpretation — plausible, not proven): this looks like a growth-scare rally, not a Goldilocks rally. A relief rally lifts risk assets with bonds; today's didn't. The bond market is pricing growth damage. THE TRANSMISSION: · Housing: OPEN responded +3.6% — one rate-sensitive name, not a cohort verdict. The 10Y fell 15.2bp; mortgage rates track the 10Y plus MBS spreads, and the latest mortgage-rate reading (2026-10-15) predates the move. · Crypto: BTC and ETH fell on a real-yield rally — the expected relief transmission didn't appear today; a hypothesis under test, not an established channel. WHAT CHANGES THE READ (monitoring thresholds, not calibrated invalidations): a close back above 5.12% (the prior close) reverses the break; a hold below 5.00% keeps it live. Whether risk assets recover alongside yields is what separates growth relief from renewed inflation pressure. YESTERDAY'S TELL, ANSWERED ('does the 10Y hold below 5.09% with breakevens contained near 2.37% — or does the fall reverse?'): 10Y 4.967% — HELD BELOW 5.09% · breakevens 2.341% — contained · the fall extended through the close. STATE: EASING (−3.048, growth-led mode — this morning's print; tomorrow's close recomputes). THE LEAN (forecast — output published, edge not established): the model leans LOWER on the real 10Y through Nov 5. In backtests its LOWER leans were right 42% of the time against a 45% base rate — below its own benchmark — so the publication rule holds it back from a direction call. Live: 0 of 0 graded, 1 issued. A new EventHorizonIQ investigation
The Army knew about the fire. Then the wind changed. Four soldiers died at CFB Wainwright. Environment Canada wrote the turn down at 5 a.m.— hashed records prove it. The internal memo called the change "unexpected." Asked on TV whether training should have proceeded, the CDS deferred to the investigations. The full @EventHorizonIQ Research investigation:

REAL YIELDS GAVE BACK 24% OF THE RALLY (intraday) Yields rose 3.4bp. Where inside the move it happened says more than the direction. Inside the move: the 10Y moved +3.4bp while real yields moved +2.0bp and breakevens +0.7bp, each on its own series (the gap is the series-reconciliation residual). Real rates carried most of it (+2.0bp); breakevens added +0.7bp, about 19% of the move — a contributor, not the driver. The levels: 10Y 5.092% (+3.4bp), real 10Y 2.748% (+2.0bp), breakevens 2.334% (+0.7bp), 10s30s 34.6bp (-0.2bp), 2s10s 35.6bp (+3.6bp). And it reversed the prior session: 24% of the real-yield rally was taken back in one session. What moved is measured; why is not — the move came overnight, before any equity session traded. For context, the regime print: NEUTRAL at +0.243 in credibility mode — no net pressure either way. Why the hedging matters: the rival explanations call for different positioning, and today's evidence doesn't separate them cleanly. The curve barely moved: the 30Y rose 3.2bp, in line with the 10Y. What it transmits into: · BTC -0.0% on the day — inside the ±0.5% noise band, treated as unchanged: no liquidity signal either way; a hypothesis under test, not an established channel. Had breakevens led, this would be an inflation scare — the kind of back-up that tightens conditions for everything. They didn't. What would prove this wrong: the growth data rolling while real yields stay this high — that's the watch from here. The watch from here has a number on it: real 10Y 2.748% — 2.0bp above prior close 2.728% — but the test is joint: the other component has not fired. Yesterday's tell, answered: the question left open ('does the 10Y hold below 5.11% with breakevens contained near 2.34% — or does the fall reverse?'): 10Y 5.092% — holds below (asked: below 5.11%) · breakevens 2.334% — contained (within the ±2bp band) (asked: near 2.34%). NEXT 2 WEEKS — no lean on the real 10Y: the rate-pressure reading (+0.243) sits inside its neutral band. Its window spans the FOMC decision (2026-10-28). Backtested since 2022: 53.1% of 514 such leans landed on the right side; on those same 514 days, always assuming higher scored 59.1%. That base rate is still ahead of the record. Levels to watch on the nominal 10Y: · HIGHER path: 10Y above 5.09% on closes, real 10Y at or above 2.75%. · LOWER path: 10Y back below 5.06%, the prior close. REAL-LED RALLY — 83% THROUGH REAL RATES Yields fell 9.8bp on PPI day (declared calendar). Where inside the move it happened says more than the direction. Inside the move: the 10Y moved -9.8bp while real yields moved -8.2bp and breakevens -1.9bp, each on its own series (the gap is the TIPS basis). Real rates carried most of it (-8.2bp); breakevens added -1.9bp, about 19% of the move — a contributor, not the driver. The levels: 10Y 5.087% (-9.8bp), real 10Y 2.743% (-8.2bp), breakevens 2.340% (-1.9bp), 10s30s 33.5bp (-0.3bp), 2s10s 33.4bp (-5.4bp). The legs moved, and the 'why' is genuinely open. For context, the regime print: NEUTRAL at -0.950 in growth-led mode — no net pressure either way. Why the hedging matters: the rival explanations call for different positioning, and today's evidence doesn't separate them cleanly. The curve barely moved: the 30Y fell 10.1bp, in line with the 10Y. What it transmits into: · Housing: the 10Y fell 9.8bp — mortgage rates track the 10Y plus MBS spreads; the latest mortgage-rate reading (2026-10-08) predates today's move. What would prove this wrong: the easing legs re-pressuring together — that's the watch from here. Yesterday's tell, answered: the question left open ('does the 10Y hold above 5.17% with breakevens contained near 2.36% — or does the rise resume?'): 10Y 5.087% — does NOT hold (asked: above 5.17%) · breakevens 2.340% — contained (within the ±2bp band) (asked: near 2.36%) — as of 13:55 ET, not a settled close. The markets are telling two stories. NEXT 2 WEEKS — rate pressure -1.241. No published lean: LOWER leans have hit 42.1% against a 45.1% base rate in the backtest. HOT CPI. HIGHER YIELDS. THEN A COMPLETE REVERSAL. The 10-year Treasury went from +9.3bp at 08:55 ET to −2.1bp by the 16:05 ET RATE DNA read. An 11.4bp reversal. But here's the interesting part. Of that reversal, 9.8bp came from real yields. At the 16:05 read: • Nominal 10Y: 5.188% (−2.1bp) • Real 10Y: 2.827% (−3.5bp) • Inflation breakevens: 2.358% (+1.3bp) Inflation compensation was still slightly higher on the day. Real yields drove the rally. So was this relief that the CPI shock was overdone? Or the bond market beginning to worry about growth? The decomposition tells us what moved. It doesn't yet settle why. RATE DNA remains NEUTRAL (−0.833). NEXT 2 WEEKS: no lean on the real 10Y. The rate-pressure reading (−0.381) sits inside its neutral band. The window ends on FOMC decision day (Oct 28). Backtested since 2022: 53.0% of 513 such leans landed on the right side. On those same days, always assuming higher was right 59.1%. That base rate is still ahead of the record. Levels to watch on the nominal 10Y: · Back above 5.21% (the prior close): today's fall has faded. · Holding below 5.19% on closes, with the real 10Y at or below 2.83%: today's fall extends. The market reversed its initial reaction. The economic interpretation is still being tested. That's what we track every day at @EventHorizonIQ. BREAKEVENS NEVER BOUGHT THE MOVE The 10Y fell 4.6bp to 5.192%. The direction is the headline; the inside of the move is the story. Real yields fell 5.1bp and breakevens only 0.3bp — the 10Y's −4.6bp was a real-yield move. Inflation expectations didn't join it. That pattern is more consistent with growth repricing than with inflation. The 30Y fell 3.9bp, less than the 10Y: 10s30s steepened 0.8bp to 36.5bp — a spread move, not long-end relief. What breaks this read: estimates roll while real yields keep falling — then relief becomes a growth warning. STATE: NEUTRAL (−0.056, growth-led mode). Follow @EventHorizonIQ for the daily read. New EHIQ call: Toronto's mayoral race has flipped. We now read Brad Bradford 62% / Olivia Chow 33%. The market still prices Chow 71%. The driver: three debates in one week, scored speaker by speaker on our language model. Chow's CBC night was her worst of the cycle — confidence halved, desperation doubled. Bradford's register held strong all three nights. The falsifier is on the card: if Chow's poll lead holds ≥ +4 through the final wave, we're wrong at full size — and we revert with the receipt. Our AI model says language leads, polls follow. Or we pay for it in public.

RATE DNA READ — INCONCLUSIVE The consensus read: yields rose 1.1bp, story over. That read is incomplete — the direction of a move is the least interesting thing about it. Inside the move: of the +1.1bp nominal move, +2.2bp came through real yields and -0.9bp through breakevens. The move was too small to split between the legs with confidence. The levels: 10Y 5.238% (+1.1bp), real 10Y 2.885% (+2.2bp), breakevens 2.352% (-0.9bp), 10s30s 35.8bp (-1.6bp), 2s10s 45.1bp (-1.8bp). The honest read is two explanations, not one: growth expectations repricing leads, but less expected easing (policy path) is in it too. For context, the regime print: NEUTRAL at +0.445 in growth-led mode — no net pressure either way. Why the hedging matters: the rival explanations call for different positioning, and today's evidence doesn't separate them cleanly. Acting as if it does is the mistake the consensus is about to make. The curve agrees with the caution: 10s30s flattened 1.6bp to 35.8bp — the outright 30Y fell 0.5bp, less than the 10Y — a spread move, not outright relief, whatever the headlines implied. Had breakevens led, this would be an inflation scare — the kind of back-up that tightens conditions for everything. They didn't. That distinction changes the read for every asset you own. What would prove this wrong: the legs picking a side and holding it — that's the watch from here. Yesterday's tell, answered: the question left open ('does the 10Y hold above 5.21% with breakevens contained near 2.36% — or does the rise resu...'): 10Y 5.238% — holds (asked: above 5.21%) · breakevens 2.352% — contained (asked: near 2.36%) — answered with this close. The markets are telling two stories. Position for neither. STATE: NEUTRAL (+0.445, growth-led mode). Follow @EventHorizonIQ for the daily read. Positions referenced may be held by EMJ Capital or EMJX. But here is the wrinkle: Treasury yields rose 1.1bp while MBS OAS tightened 2.0bp (index proxy, as of 2026-10-09). The Treasury move has not transmitted cleanly through mortgage spreads — borrowers are not getting the move the headlines describe. That disagreement is itself the information.

RATE DNA: REAL YIELDS DROVE THE SELL-OFF. MORTGAGE SPREADS MADE IT WORSE. The 10-year Treasury yield rose 4.7 basis points to 5.331%. But the headline misses two things. First, 3.3bp of that rise came through real yields. Inflation breakevens contributed just 1.3bp. Roughly 71% of the move came through the real-rate component. This was not primarily an inflation-expectations shock. Second, the mortgage market showed another layer of pressure. MBS option-adjusted spreads widened 3.0bp in today's index proxy, while the MOVE index stood at 102.6. Our transmission model attributes roughly 60% of the recent mortgage-spread stickiness to volatility. That matters because mortgage borrowers don't receive the Treasury yield. They face a mortgage rate that also reflects spreads, hedging costs and lender economics. And the outright 30-year Treasury yield rose 3.4bp today, despite the 10s30s curve flattening. The curve flattened. Long-term borrowing costs did not fall. Our regime remains TIGHTENING (+1.020), down from yesterday's +1.843. The unresolved question is WHY real yields rose: stronger growth expectations, less anticipated easing, or another real-rate driver? Cross-asset confirmation is conflicted. The evidence does not yet settle the cause. What we're watching: whether growth expectations hold while real yields remain elevated. The direction tells you yields rose. The composition tells you where the pressure came from. The mortgage market tells you why that pressure may persist. RATE DNA | October 8, 2026 | Morning snapshot, not a market close. RATE DNA: BREAKEVENS NEVER BOUGHT THE MOVE The 10Y is around 5.34% this morning. The obvious story is that yields are surging again. The more important story is what is actually driving the move. Of the +6.4bp move in the 10Y, +5.2bp came through real yields and only +1.2bp through breakevens. 10Y: 5.343% (+6.4bp) Real 10Y: 2.959% (+5.2bp) Breakevens: 2.382% (+1.2bp) 2s10s: 53.3bp (+5.1bp) Inflation expectations barely participated. That matters. If breakevens had led, this would look like an inflation scare. They didn't. The tape instead leans toward a real-rate repricing — potentially stronger growth, less expected easing, higher real term premium, or supply pressure. Today's data does not separate those explanations cleanly enough to pretend we know which one. And the rest of the market is not confirming one clean story. Vol has a scare bid. BTC is under pressure. The consumer complex is weak. The 30Y is rising even more than the 10Y. But here's an important wrinkle: Treasury yields jumped while MBS spreads tightened about 2bp. In other words, the Treasury shock has not yet transmitted cleanly through mortgage spreads. That disagreement is information. STATE: SEVERE (+2.079, growth-led mode). Yesterday's real-led rise extended this morning. The decomposition is clear. The cause is not. That's the distinction RATE DNA is built to make. Follow @EventHorizonIQ for the daily read. Positions referenced may be held by EMJ Capital or EMJX. TRANSMISSION — MIXED · 10Y +6.4bp · MOVE 105.2 (+0.0) · MBS OAS -2.0bp (index proxy) · weekly driver: VOL-DRIVEN 60%.

EHIQ RATE DNA: THE 10Y ROSE. INFLATION DIDN’T. The 10Y moved +3.4bp to 5.305%. But look inside the move: Real yield: +3.5bp Breakevens: -0.1bp Almost the entire selloff came through real rates. Inflation expectations contributed essentially nothing. That distinction matters. If breakevens had driven the move, you’d be looking at an inflation scare. They didn’t. The evidence instead leans toward growth expectations being repriced, although today’s tape can’t fully separate that from policy-path, term-premium or positioning explanations. The curve adds another warning: the 30Y rose 4.3bp, more than the 10Y. And the regime moved from TIGHTENING yesterday to SEVERE today: STATE: SEVERE (+2.002), growth-led mode. The headline tells you yields went up. RATE DNA tells you what was inside the move. Follow @EventHorizonIQ for the daily read.

THE CALL: BRAZIL PRESIDENT MARKET: 58.9% Flávio Bolsonaro EHIQ: 43% Brazil votes tomorrow. Our disagreement with the market isn't primarily about the first round. It's about what happens after it. A candidate needs more than 50% of valid votes to win tomorrow. EHIQ puts a first-round victory at just 4%. Otherwise, Lula and Flávio head to an October 25 runoff. And that's where the divergence gets interesting. The market currently prices Flávio at 58.9% to win the presidency. EHIQ: 43%. Why are we less confident? Because the runoff evidence doesn't yet show that degree of separation. One recent AtlasIntel runoff test had Flávio 47.7%, Lula 47.6% — effectively even within the poll's uncertainty. EHIQ's registered calls currently put: Lula 55% · Flávio 43%. That's not a declaration that Flávio loses. It's a disagreement about confidence. Tomorrow gives us the first hard evidence: actual first-round vote shares, and where the smaller-candidate vote sits. Then the question is whether those voters consolidate decisively behind either finalist before October 25. Market: 58.9% Flávio EHIQ: 43% Every call is timestamped. The misses stay on the tape too. RATE DNA: THE JOBS RALLY WAS A HEAD FAKE Friday morning looked like the rate relief everyone had been waiting for. Payrolls: +29K vs ~90K expected. July and August revised down another 60K. The immediate reaction? The 10-year Treasury yield plunged as much as 8bp. Then something important happened. The entire move reversed. By the close, the 10-year wasn't DOWN. It was UP. That's the story RATE DNA cares about. Because if a major downside jobs surprise can't keep Treasury yields down for a single session, the bond market is telling us the problem is bigger than one weak employment print. At the close: 10Y: 5.27% Real 10Y: 2.91% Breakeven: 2.36% And almost all of the closing move higher came through REAL yields rather than breakevens. RATE DNA finishes the week back at: TIGHTENING: +1.517 So Friday gave us two completely different signals. MORNING: Weak growth → Fed relief → yields collapse. CLOSE: Bond market rejects the relief → real yields reassert themselves. That's a head fake. And it matters for everything we're watching. BTC finished around $84.4K and didn't confirm a major new liquidity impulse. Housing still faces a 30-year mortgage rate above 7%. And rate-sensitive names may have gotten a Fed reprieve — but they haven't gotten durable rate relief yet. The question for next week is now very simple: If +29K payrolls couldn't keep the 10-year down, what will? For RATE DNA to turn constructive, we want to see weaker growth actually TRANSMIT into lower real yields and lower borrowing costs — without earnings revisions collapsing. Until then: Friday's first move was the headline. Friday's close was the signal. EHIQ RATE DNA STATE: TIGHTENING SCORE: +1.517 We track the character of the move, not just the direction. THE CALL: QUEBEC MAJORITY THE MARKET SAYS: 65% EHIQ SAYS: 55% The market is increasingly confident the Parti Québécois wins at least 64 of Quebec's 127 seats on Monday. We're less confident. Our 55% call was registered August 31. We haven't changed it. Why? Our model read the language across all four French-language debates. It sees a fragmented opposition that still gives the PQ a path to converting roughly 30% support into a majority — but not enough evidence to justify the market's increasing confidence. The seat math shows how narrow the hinge is. One current Quebec projection produces 55 PQ seats under one polling scenario and 67 under another. Same election. One is a minority. One is a majority. Projection 127 So this isn't a call that the PQ loses. It's a call about confidence. Market: 65% majority EHIQ: 55% majority Monday resolves it. Every call is timestamped. Everyone's celebrating falling rates after today's jobs miss. EHIQ RATE DNA says: not so fast. Jobs: +29K vs ~90K expected. 10Y yields fell, but the character of the move matters: Real yields: −2.9bp Breakevens: −1.5bp 2s10s: −8bp 10s30s: +5.5bp RATE DNA reads this as a GROWTH-SCARE RALLY — not an all-clear. The front end is pricing Fed cuts. The long end is still carrying pressure. The read-through: $BTC / $ETH: today's bid looks like the liquidity/cut trade. Good initially. But if earnings revisions start rolling over, growth weakness can overwhelm the liquidity impulse. $OPEN / homebuilders: this is not the rate relief housing needs yet. Mortgages price off the long end. OPEN needs the 30-year mortgage rate to come down — not simply the 2-year Treasury. Beaten-down consumer names: this is the dangerous version of lower rates. The borrower can weaken before the multiple expands. What changes our view? Real yields and breakevens falling together while earnings estimates hold. Until then, lower rates ≠ all-clear. Follow @EventHorizonIQ for the daily RATE DNA print. We track the character of the move, not just the direction.
