Hiring an executive coach? Here are four things to look for—beyond chemistry—when you are choosing the right coach for you:
Enterprise fluency: Can they link coaching goals to strategy, board narratives, and operating cadence—without adding noise?
Why it matters: Without enterprise context, coaching produces personal insight but not the cross-functional momentum your mandate requires.
Integrated method: How do they integrate 1:1 work with team coaching and stakeholder alignment so change sticks beyond the individual?
Why it matters: Sustainable performance shifts happen when individual behavior change is reinforced by the team’s rhythms and decision forums.
Evidence & outcomes: Do they focus on clear coaching success metrics (breakthrough outcomes, decision speed, meeting load, team coherence, resilience), not just coaching output and session counts?
Why it matters: What gets measured gets managed—metrics keep everyone honest and allow you to communicate ROI to the Board.
Fit & discretion: Do their working styles challenge productively and protect confidentiality?
Why it matters: Senior leaders need a safe, unvarnished space to test thinking; trust and constructive tension are the engines of growth.

For many CEOs and boards, the AI question has moved beyond adoption. The pressing dilemma now is whether AI will deepen the company’s competitive moat or simply add another layer of cost, activity, and pressure. Here's my take on it.
Artemis II astronauts have traveled 252,756 miles from Earth, flown around the Moon, and observed the lunar surface like never before. Now, they’re coming home. 🌎

Artemis II may have splashed down, but our photos and videos from the mission are still rolling in! Keep an eye on the latest: nasa.gov/artemis-ii-multimed…
Board pressure. Big calls. No room for noise.

Signs It Is Time for a Coaching Tune-Up
You likely don’t need a reinvention—just a sharper edge. If three or more of these resonate, a focused coaching tune-up will create immediate leverage:
Decision drag: Choices that should take a day are stretching to a week.
Meeting creep: Calendar is busy, throughput is flat; too many status updates, but not enough decisions.
Team cross-currents: Smart executives pulling in different directions; priorities multiply, accountability blurs.
Board narrative pressure: You need a tighter story (and plan) for the next 60–90 days.
Energy debt: Performance is holding, but recovery (sleep, stress, focus) is trending the wrong way.
Strategy-execution gap: Strategy is clear; operating cadence, however, isn’t reinforcing it.
If this sounds familiar, here’s a concise way to structure an engagement for outcomes—not hours:

When coaching works at the top, it’s because the scope and success metrics are explicit. Ask any prospective coach:
How will we connect goals to my current mandate and board calendar?
Why it matters: If the work isn’t anchored to near-term enterprise milestones, you’ll get insight without impact.
What will be different in 90 days for me and my team?
Why it matters: Time-boxed outcomes create urgency, focus measurement, and force trade-offs that move the needle.
How do you involve stakeholders without creating meeting sprawl?
Why it matters: Value evaporates if alignment adds overhead—design should reduce friction while increasing throughput.
What data do we track (decision latency, meeting load, resilience markers)?
Why it matters: Metrics keep everyone honest and give you a board-ready story about ROI, not anecdotes.
I outlined additional buyer questions here, along with a quick primer on leadership vs. executive coaching (helpful if your Chief People Officer is comparing options).

New research paints a portrait of depression as a condition of regulatory imbalance. Stress-sensitive neurons turn up their signals too high. Immune guardians turn theirs down too low. Here's what that means for people who are suffering, by @WmHaseltine psychologytoday.com/us/blog/…
The data are trickling in, and according to the first insights, AI is rewiring the human brain. What do you think about regulating AI the way we regulate medical devices?
It seems illogical to me to have more stringent regulations on sunscreens that are washed off the skin within hours than on technologies that subtly affect our neurobiology without our consent or clear consumer disclaimers.
