I drift where the warmest waters
fade into the dreamiest skies,
where morning loosens its golden light
and the quiet begins to rise.
Let me float beyond the far hills,
untethered, weightless, and free;
as the dawn drifts into the daylight,
and the daylight awakens in me.
Sunset at the Cross of the Martyrs. The monument sits high above Santa Fe.
It memorializes a defining chapter in New Mexico’s history. During the 17th century, the region was plagued by drought, conflict between civil and church authorities, and increasing demands placed by Spanish settlers upon Native communities.
In 1680, Pueblo peoples united under the leadership of Po’pay and others, revolted against Spanish rule, and successfully drove the Spanish from New Mexico for 12 years. During the revolt, 21 Franciscan priests and friars lost their lives. The monument on this hill commemorates their martyrdom and the profound losses of this turbulent period.
There is a moment before morning fully arrives
when sleep still clings to the edge of the world.
The horizon exhales in whispers of gold and rose,
while above it,
the blue gathers itself,
carrying the quiet weight of another day.
Dawn is simply the space between one deep breath…
and the next.
Have you ever driven past a group of kids holding homemade signs for a car wash, only to realize they must've used crayons because you can't read a single word?
That's what this reminds me of. Setting aside the fact that climbing the building was dangerous and illegal, they went to all that effort... and almost nobody can even read what's written on the flag. Kind of defeats the purpose of a protest if your message is completely lost in the wind.
Taylor and Travis! Those two crazy kids.

The hills keep their secrets.
The meadow keeps its peace.
And somewhere between the grazing cattle and the endless sky, the soul remembers it was never meant to live in a hurry. 🐂⛰️
Most people see the harvest.
I love the part before that.
The digging. The edging. The planning. The quiet morning when you’re building something that won’t reach its full potential for years.
That’s where the magic starts. 👍🏻
No flowers on my pomegranate tree. 3 years; no flowers/ no fruit.

The food forest waits.
I just love her- she always highlights positive content! And her soaps almost look good enough to eat. 😂 almost…
