This budget does very little to the overall level of tax, and the overall level of tax is going up significantly.
Here's the tax increases over the next few years, in 2026 £. You can just about see today's changes in green.

UK new minimum wage: £27,456 per year.
Higher-rate tax bracket: £50,270.
1.8x difference.
In 1997 there was a 5x difference.
Mind boggling.

🇷🇺 Putin has invited Zelenskyy to Moscow for direct peace talks, promising to guarantee his safety during the visit.
The Kremlin says Norway's prime minister and Finland's president conveyed Zelenskyy's interest in meeting Putin during a 90-minute phone call.
Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. are also preparing to resume peace negotiations in Abu Dhabi in November, although Kyiv has previously rejected Moscow as a meeting location.

The entirety of the Budget appears to have been leaked to the Times, what is the point of Parliament? I look forward to Lindsay Hoyle exploding and the Government just shrugging.

This is just embarrassing.
In 2019, Notre Dame burnt down.
The damage was immense, costing nearly €700 million to fix.
It took 5 years to reopen to the public.
In the SAME WEEK, Hammersmith Bridge closed because of some structural damage.
It didn’t burn down, and it didn’t collapse.
Cars and buses were banned from using the bridge.
Seven years later, it STILL has not reopened.
We have spent £60 million since the closure, and we are nowhere close to opening it again.
This is what happens when we forget how to build.
Bridges close, and we are just meant to accept they will never open again.
Potholes appear in the roads, and they never get fixed.
Trains get delayed, and that’s just “how it is now”.
We should never accept this.
We are campaigning against it. Join us.

Brutal chart.
France and UK vs. Communist countries at their peak.
UK public spending as % of GDP is currently above Romania, Venezuela and China.
And France is a lost cause.
